I haven't even bought the seeds yet but will happily join in! Love sunflowers they are so bright and cheerful. I remember my father growing a monster when I was a child.0

I'd love to join in too, I've got half a bag (big bag) of black sun flower seeds which is bird food, does anyone think they would grow and if so would anyone like some? Quite happy to stick some in the post.
I've erm got about 1lb in weight of the blighters, maybe more.:o0 -
I can't imagine why they wouldn't - but you'd have no idea what type you were growing0

I'm not sure if they will I think they're sterile ones for the birds. The amount of the seeds I've chucked out for my birds, my garden would be covered in sunflowers by now.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Think it depends on the bird food, i put sunflower hearts out for the birds and last year had tons of them growing under the bird feeder!! Not sure about the black seeds though!0

I was so busy this weekend that I forgot to go and get some seed. Start without me - I'll try and remember tomorrow. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

If it's any consillation after the uncertainty of the bird food / black seeds I nipped out to Lidl and bought some of the proper ones, but it was so hot here in Dundee 21 degrees (that's sun burn weather for me), I couldn't get out until after 5pm and forgot to plant the blighters.
Ah well there is tomorrow, fingers crossed.
Edit - will plant some of the bird food ones anyway in a separate pot just to see what happens.0
