I win the first to 6", I also win the first planted outside and it's in a raised bed, so no height advantages for anyone else
I will also probably win the first sunflower to die prize, when a frost gets it.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I'm in - I've been planning to fill my front bed with sunflowers this year!
Now where is a good place to get the seeds? I quite fancy a few different varieties - tall ones at the back and shorter ones to fill in. I have a bed that is about 18" deep and runs all the way around my bay window at the front!0 -

I got this variety pack but, be warned, they all look the same when they start growing and I'm regretting not labelling them:

Although, having said that, the slugs seem to be enjoying them very well without a menu.0 -
Why is it blanking out mr f othergill's, is it an obscure obscenity?0

I about to buy Gardeners World, just so I can join in lol. Can I grow them in a pot ?0
-
I'm growing mine in pots as the part of my allotment I want them in won't be ready for them this year (ive planned in a seating area and want to have sunflowers and sweetpeas as the backdrop)
Mine started to grow yesterday and are already an inch high - speedy! Now if only I can keep the kitten from eating them0 -

Oh Lotus, no one is disqualifying you.....just accepting YOU are unbeatable.
As it turns out I am not. They are growing apace though. Them and the ten week stocks. I wish the delphinums were doing as well. And...the icelandic poppies...no sign of them yet0 -

Ok, I will be entering in the 'tallest red one' part of the competition. I'm not trying to compete with the tallest yellow ones, as my "Ruby Red" only grow to 1-1½m.
Perhaps I should have checked that, but I wanted red ones.
I can't believe you've made me grow flowers.
I think they should grow well up the fence between my veg plots, as that gets loads of sun. Can't start until I've got a new fence though. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
