Due to a fortunate and mysterious influx of seeds, I will now be entering all categories of competion. For the glory. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Does there have to be a measuring day? As we've all started at different times?
Perhaps we should just say by the time the season's over, i.e. winter? If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
that's what I was thinking - just take photos of your sunflowers at their best (next to tape measure for height) and we'll just compare them at the end of the season0

Oh I'm in a dilema. The only space I have in the ground is in the shade and my sunflowers aren't going to do well there so I need to put them in a pot, or at least one of them (the one that will win
).
Now I know it's helping the competition but has anyone got any ideas of the size of pot I'm going to need in order to grow my 18ft beast?0 -
I'd say that a three inch pot should be perfect
Sorry not a clue - this is my first year growing anything!0 -

I noticed hugely tall sunflowers in a shady front garden in a local town last summer. My guess was they'd grown immensly tall looking for the sun....like seedlings grown too far from the window.
Now its not something I'd do myself....not being in it for the competition really, but I wonder for those with a few it might be worth experimenting with making them ''reach'' for the light once they've got a strong start? I dunno, as I know nothing about them!0 -
Me and the bairn have just planted our free Gardeners World sunflower seeds.... please may we join in. For the Glory of course!Well behaved women rarely make history.0
