Calm down everybody. The OP may or not be a troll. But as this MSE there are a number of things that the OP can do.
    1. Check with the original insurer if they will insure you on a different car (don't hide any facts and offer information) and for how much.
    2. If they will not insure you then you can then approach others. You may get better results using a broker.
    3. Other posters are probably correct in that a lease car or HP may be difficult to obtain for an affordable price given you poor credit history. Be careful on how many providers you visit.
    4. In the short term you get about most of the NW pretty quickly by bus & train assuming that you mean Manchester, Liverpool, Preston and places inbetween.
    5. Most things can be obtained for a price. Its how young drivers get insurance & end of ban drunk drivers get on the road again.

    .

I live in the North West and I would be unable to do my job without a car, there is one bus per hour from the village I live in and it's a 2 mile walk to the Manchester bus, no trains except toy ones at the weekend round here.

Buy a Saab - no steering lock!
Yes but some older ones had the lock in the floor by the gearstick and when it locks a 'bolt' drops into the gearbox which locks it in one gear (reverse I think).

I think the only way to look on the insurance system is like this.

When you apply, either by electronic or phone methods, they credit the individual with a degree of intelligence and integrity. IE, you will not lie and will understand what the details you give actually mean.

Fine for you if you fail to disclose and all goes well, but, no insurer is going to payout any amount on a claim without confirming that the policy is valid and that mistakes or deceipt have not entered the equation.

Katie, this isn't a pop at you, simply how it has to work to protect everyone;);)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

To get back to the op.

Have they actually said they won't pay?

You have to pay the policy in full, and they have said the new premium would be £1800, it you had declared your points, and the value of the car was £1500 less the £250.
Most policies terminate on a write off, so you have two things to check.

    Why the policy has stopped.
If it is just normal termination, or if they have actually "cancelled" it.

If you can transfer the policy onto your next car, if you pay the new premiums as if you had delared the points, and check the price a new quote would be, with the same company, with the points declared, and see how much differece it makes to you without the points declared. If you do this with a bogus name, and close address, but other details the same, you'll get a good idea.

They ask when you make a claim.... Though strangely they never ask when they do an automated renewal
You always have a duty of disclosure to insurance companies - if there is a material change to your situation that might affect your insurance, you must tell them ASAP. This includes accidents where no claims are made, change of employment, change of address, change of mileage, and any points or motoring offences. The renewal notice you receive ahead of automatic renewal reminds you of this and provides the contact details.

Yep, but the days of expecting a policy holder to guess what an insurance company regards as a material fact are thankfully long gone and your policy will say exactly what you have to tell them about and when.

Mine has three sections, “you must tell us……..”

“Before” includes changing car or allowing a new driver to use it etc

“As soon as possible” covers accident & incidents etc

    “At renewal” covers convictions etc

We’ve had threads on here where people have gone down the ASAP route when they didn’t need to, got a hefty premium rise from the call centre as a result and then had to battle to get it back.

As always, the advice has to be “read the policy”

Spoke to the insurance today. It has not been canceled. If I was to get another car I could have the policy transferred.
