    They ask you?

So do you have to send them a copy of your license?

I had a an accident 3 years ago that was my fault, and I was never asked about points.

It does say in my policy with DL that you must inform them if you are convicted of any motoring offence other than fixed penalty parking tickets, failure to do so may affect your cover.

Yeah, same here... but how do they find out you have points if you don't inform them like you're supposed to? The Op obviously didn't disclose for a reason, and I don't really buy the whole "I was naive and didn't know I had to tell them" story because they ask you online and over the phone.

Personally, I've disclosed all the points I've ever had. At one point I had 9 points on my licenses (3 x SP30), and this year I won't have to declare my DR10 as it's 5 and a half years old, other than that my licence is clear.

But unless they physically see your DL, how do they know...

I believe they'll have access to the DVLA to check.

Every policy I've have they've said in the small print to inform them if I get points etc.

You'll now have to declare to other companies that you've had insurance cancelled in the past...rather you than me!

It would be on DVLA's systems? Don't assume that insurers won't check with DVLA because they'd do anything if it would mean they wouldn't need to pay out.

I've never had insurance cancelled. That would be the OP; Kate.

Oh no, I'm not assuming they don't. I was just curious how the OP's insurers found out about her points. No answer yet.

Gordon, Whether you "buy it" or not, it's actually true.

I'm here to ask for advice. I made my insurance application online and the question was "do you have any motoring convictions" which I thought to be something different to points on my license. Stupid, yes. A lie? No.

No phone call was made to ask me about points on my license.

Anyway, I have a clearer picture now, so thanks to everyone for the help. Just have to see how it pans out.

So what do you think a "motoring conviction" is?
