BR will think of you tomorrow at the Funeral, I hope its a celebration, IYKWIM.
It will be, I think! It's a big happy family with lots of cousins I grew up with - if it's anything like Grandpa's funeral (5 years ago) it will be a really good do. My mum has three sisters and a brother and they and their kids are scattered all over the world, so it's the only time most of us get to see each other. I haven't seen several of my cousins since Grandpa's funeral, and I hardly ever get to see my little sister either.

It has occurred to me is that now Grandma has gone there will be no obvious opportunities for any more family gatherings for a while - nobody is getting married, there aren't any big wedding anniversaries coming up, and (God willing) nobody else is likely to die any time soon (my oldest aunt is only 63). Perhaps my cousin will have a proper family do for baby's christening. (his wife and baby aren't coming to the funeral, so I will have to be sure to make the effort to go and see them very soon - they're only in North London so I have NO excuse!)

I do think that it will be a difficult funeral though. I have lost 3 grandparents in the past 5 years (the other died when I was 3) but Grandma was the only one I was really close to, or had anything in common with :)

  • Shez - congrats to your DH on the new job! :j :j :j

Flat is fine, kitchen is sorted (well, all the appliances are in - I still have a LOT of cupboard-sorting to do) and I have my new bed - but no wardrobe or living room furniture as it's all on order from Argos on a 28-35 day lead time (which I'm now 14 days into). My friend who lives 2 blocks away texted me yesterday and mentioned that he is about to get rid of his old sofa and did I want it? I said no cos it's all on order anyway, but it was quite tempting to say "yes, but can you take it away again after 2 weeks"? :D He will be a useful person to have around when I start rearranging furniture and so on, as he's a big strong bloke! (Gay, before you ask :D)

No more sorting out will be getting done until next week now, as I'm at Mum's tonight and tomorrow then on holiday in Cardiff for 4 nights (opera trip with friends).

    Hi everyone

Up at 7 a.m. - a bit late and had to gently wake Penninewoman who'd also overslept. :) Then quick toast-make, cat feed and let out, and bread-make in our Panasonic 253 (it is a great piece of kit, isn't it?!) Weigh the ingredients using a set of scales rescued from a school I taught at in the 80s. It was shutting and much stuff was being thrown out. I sometimes wonder how many cakes were made using these scales . . . . . they're great - just the basic balancing type. Ingredients one side weights on the other - and in ozs of course! :)

Then back to bed for a couple of hours, then back up, vac around the place, empty a few bins, bring wheelie bin back in after the lorry had emptied it, check cats OK on food and then up here to check emails and plan the rest of the day.

Which will consist of shopping locally and maybe get penninewoman another Christmas present / birthday present as her birthday is very soon after the 25th! I saw some locally hand-made necklaces which might suit so will check.

And, gingin, living here is hard to leave - we've been here 30-odd years and can't see ourselves leaving anytime soon . . . .:)

    Here's another photo to remind you . . . . :(

    Where now?
  • My "day off" isn't really turning out to be a day off at all. The appointment with solicitor to make my will took longer than I expected. I was hoping to be home, done some washing and cleaning before heading out to supermarket and back to do some batch cooking by now.

My neighbour, who is lovely and very helpful, decided she would like a chat as she is very upset. Her DD was called into school by the headmaster to say that a parent had reported her for neglecting her children! She was absolutely distraught. I can't even see why someone would make up such a story. Her children are always beautifully turned out, clean and well-fed. She spends lots of time with them too. Her husband is absolutely furious and is seeking legal advice. So, after about 40 minutes of chatting, I hadn't achieved very much but at least my neighbour felt better for getting it off her chest.

Off to look at the recipes board now. I got about 2lbs of plums and 2lbs of grapes for 28p each today and a big bag of baby potatoes for 35p! so, I need some inspiration.

shez Congratulations to your DH on his new job
Bargain I hope the funeral goes well and without any glitches
gingin DS says his braces don't really hurt him (at the mo anyway). He is just constantly aware of them. I hope it won't be too long till he switches off to them.
pennineman I live in Lancashire too but nowhere near as scenic as you. What beautiful surroundings.
