I don't think a car is a neccessity either- i've never had access to one with neither parent driving, and we've just had to make do as best we can, including moving back to a town with better public transport.
No after school activities or clubs, dance lessons etc for me either, there wasn't the money.

I would have to disagree with you here, for some, a car is an essential...without one, they would not be able to go out and about.

For me, my car is an essential as I have three disabled children and my mobility is no longer what it used to be, without my car, I would not be able to get them to school, to appointments, to the hospital etc and I would not be able to get the shopping in and be able to rush to the school within 10 minutes (their requirement) when one of the boys has a medical emergency.

Mind you, my car works out cheaper than moving or public transport (one days school run costs the same as one weeks worth of fuel)
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

LOW WAGE????? FGS - I only make £10300 per year - and I'm a single mum!!! ( I have just applied for another job on a salary of 14000 - FT) God - If I can manage it then so can you!!!!
WTC should pay for up to 80% of your nursery fees.

When they're in school all day you won't see them anyway, so what's the difference?

What's wrong with getting a job in a school so you have the same hours? Loads of admin jobs - secretarial, catering etc.

I only get £22/pw HB so I doubt that you'll get any with your partner's salary

Shift work as suggested earlier is also a good idea -= twilight shift at Tesco for example

Go over to the Old Style board for money saving ideas - you won't get any help from the government!
so you get 7 grand in tax credits..sshhhhhh:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
    why cant she?

    Hello,

Sorry, not looking to change the topic, I just wanted to say that it's not too late for sister at 42 years. I am also 42 and had a IVF and got pregnant that way. I am now expecting girl/boy twins :kisses: Tell you sister not to give up hope :-) If you want to PM me I can give you the name of the clinic, which was excellent
To those people on this forum who DOES NOT APPROVE of HANDOUTS the treatment was PRIVATELY FUNDED and not on the NHS!
I just want to say that if we all waited until we were financially secure before having children - then the population would drastically decrease and there wouldn't be enough dependants to keep the country ticking over when we're all old and retired!
My sister decided to wait until she was established in her career as a doctor. She's now 42 and has missed the chance to have a baby - something she now regrets.
I started young, and my 4 kids are my reason for living!
And also - to those moaning about living off the taxpayer...the original poster has said she has paid taxes - and no doubt her partner does too. So what's the difference between claiming benefits for a few years while she enjoys her child growing up - and you lot claiming your state pension for 20 odd years!!!

I am not considering to resign from work to sit on my !!!! all day.

I want to bring up my child and return to work! Not working isn't something I plan to do for the rest of my life!

No what you want to do is leave work and be paid to bring up your child.

The state is not going to pay to allow someone to give up work to raise a child. My god you should really read what you type.

You chose to raise a family and it is YOUR duty, not the state's, to make sure you have made adequate provision for such an epic task. What the hell happened to people saving money to raise a family/buy their own home?

You response of asking what is wrong with us people is that US PEOPLE are the one who would be paying for you to raise YOUR child!

EDIT - Oh is this a troll post? Grmbl*!!*"£"*££*$$*$£

You won't get income support as a lone parent as you have a partner, only if your are disabled or a carer.

I am starting to see why more people choose not to mention they have a partner! Why are we being punished for choosing a 2 parent family for our children - it looks like most people would be better off (financially) single - there is something very wrong with this picture:
We get absolutely nothing - yet Majella down the street who yes lives with a partner and has done so for all her 3 kids - seems to have no problem going on holidays / brand new car in tow / and of course no problem there with childare - wonder why???

You get nothing because you are honest and presumably have an earned income, your neighbour is probably not entitled to more than you but she is commiting fraud by claiming to be a single parent (presumably without an income). If you know this why not report her?

You are not being punished, she is getting away with defrauding the government.

Although I admire the OP's wish to care for her children herself, I don't think she should get State Benefits to enable her to do so.

This, imho should apply to every parent however, including those who get £100s of State money every month to enable someone else to look after their children.

I'm glad Tax Credits just for having children are being reduced.
