Sorry but yes I get child benefit, something every single person in the country who has a child is entitled to-including millionaires.
I think you will find that I said I was extremely grateful for the help I receive/d for the government? And Tax Credits is only short term, I at this point may not be entitled to any now! So please before you nit pick, look closer at my post!
And, having just looked at your recent posts, Michelle1506, didn't you recently ask if it's possible to claim benefits if you accept voluntary redunancy?! Don't let it annoy you, mumof2girls.0 -
I certainly didn't realise I was entitled to anything except child benefit when my daughter was born 7 years ago! Even as a single parent I thought I would just have to cope like I assumed everyone was
. It was only when my friend mentioned that tax credits could help with childcare costs that i looked into it and saw what I was entitled to. Some months they have literally saved my backside and I work full time.
The problem is they are very easy to become dependent on.
I don't think anyone turns down benefits when they are offered round like they have been and this is probably one of the reasons we have a society now that expects to be looked after by the state. It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -
God this thread has been exhausting. I do like all the people who talk about doing it on their own and then in the same breath talk about WTC and child benefits that they receive.
I dont care how many benefits you take but dont then take the moral high ground over it
I dont have any kids so have never seen a Tax credit but I dont lose any sleep over the fact that my tax is paying someone else's childcare. Better that than illegal wars anyhow.0 -
I agree with you. I am 42 and have not yet had a family, (but am 27 weeks pregnant and will have soon!) up to now I have paying for other peoples! But I have never complained about it!
I agree, claim ALL THE BENEFITS YOU LIKE, BUT DON'T TAKE THE MORAL HIGH GROUND!God this thread has been exhausting. I do like all the people who talk about doing it on their own and then in the same breath talk about WTC and child benefits that they receive.

It's a shame these threads normally end up with bickering but I think one good thing about all the tax credit threads that have appeared over the last few days is it's opened peoples eyes to how much benefits have been paid out.
I for one have no knowledge about WTC or CTC and assumed that only those on a very low wage got them so I've been quite surprised by how many people receive them and also by how much income you can have and still get them.
Quite often on this forum benefit claimants get a hard time and it's been quite an eye-opener to see how many people who complain about benefit claimants have turned out to be receiving benefits themselves in the form of tax credits! The hypocrisy and double standards have been quite astounding to read.
I go along with what other posters have said - if you're entitled to benefits claim them, you'd be daft not too. But don't judge or slate someone else when you yourself are getting benefits (and tax credits are benefits).Dum Spiro Spero0 -

You've got that spot on anguk!!!0 -
Whilst I agree with the sentiment, there are times when things happen later down the line which can cause problems, for example, a marriage split, a disability, a death.
We could well afford it when we started to have children (I was a high rate tax payer).....but it is a slightly different story now due to two of the above!
I agree, we could well afford to have a child and we did but my husband was killed when she was barely 2, (she is now 14). Since then it has been very hard and I actually dream of earning 17,000 per annum. I receive no extra income benefits other than W and CTC and and even on my low income am not even entitled to free school dinners, which, strangely enough would be a big help to me (i.e. 10.00 extra per week) as I receive WTC. That's why I love this forum and all the help I receive in the form of money saving tips. Thankyou to everyone!!0 -
