Thank you Kimitatsu the book looks interesting, would also love the apricot curd recipe.
My good news for today, my OH walked to the local shop this afternoon just to buy milk. Its the first time in five months hes left the house on his own.
I am over the moon this is a huge forward step for him, had a little cry as I watched him from the window walk down the street.

    Here you go Dee

    Ingredients:
    • 1½ lbs (675 g) fresh apricots or 1 lb (450 g) dried
    • Juice of 2 lemons
    • 4 free-range eggs
    • 1 lb (450 g) sugar
    • 4 oz (112 g) unsalted butter
    Method:
    1. Wash fresh apricots in hot water Soak dried apricots for 24 hours in water.
    2. Cook the apricots in a pan with just enough water to prevent them burning. When soft, push through a strainer into a medium-sized mixing bowl, pressing down on the fruit with a wooden spoon. Throw away the skins left in the strainer.
    3. Put another heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water and melt the butter. Beat the eggs lightly and stir into the bowl with the sugar, apricot puree and the juice of the lemons.
    4. Cook the mixture, stirring frequently, for 25 to 30 minutes or until it thickens.
    5. Remove the bowl from the heat and pour the curd into clean, dry, warm, sterilized jars.
    6. Seal and cover.
    7. Label with date and contents when fully cooled.
    8. Keep in a cool, dry place or refrigerate.
Easily makes 2 lb (900 g) of Apricot Curd.

Chuffed for you - its always really hard with depression.

This post will probably get lost with the 'issues' on here but I thought I would just pop in and say hello.

Baby Daniel is three weeks old now and the tiredness is catching up with us now. He's not too bad but as mentioned previously he has reflux which means he is very sick after most of his feeds. This means that after feeds he needs to be upright for at least 30 minutes and this makes feeds last a long time. At night this means we're up for about an hour which is quite hard to stay awake for.

Anyway, not been very OS as have been getting convenience food as I'm just too tired to cook but will need to get my bum in gear and start meal planning again otherwise I'll be in serious money trouble very, very soon.

Our main expense at the moment is baby milk (I cannot breastfeed - funny how you think you have to justify yourself over this) which is £2.19 for 1 litre and my little man goes through one of these in 24 hours! This takes up over half of our grocery budget but there's nothing we can do until he's older. The doctors have advised that we use ready-to-use milk due to the fact he has a delicate tummy and until he is at least 2 months old.

Also as he was so big when he was born we needed to get him new clothes. He is in 3-6 months at only 3 weeks. Also need to change all his nappies as they are newborn and he is now in size 2. Luckily most supermarkets will let you exchange without a receipt so we loose no money the

Sunny today so I have put out some of OH's laundary to dry and will need to put on another load of washing after little one's next feed. At the moment we run the machine several times a day due to my little man being sick everywhere. We use towels to catch the worst but they need washing daily otherwise they really start to stink. Sorry, that's probably too much info.

I'll stop rambling on now and go off and think about doing a meal plan for the next week at least.

Hugs to all those who need them.

jediteacher you are not rambling you are just a very caring tired mum who want to do the very best for your daniel
I know what it's like my 1st had colic and number 6 was a big baby she was 10lb 14oz we didn't get to the bottom of why she kept bringing all her feeds back until she started to loose too much weight she went down to just under 9lb and looked very poorly then they started to treat her for reflux and she slowly started to keep her feeds down and she began to put on weight she will be 18 in August you have a head start finding out so soon we had to wait nearly 4 months and she'd gone from wearing 3 to 6 mths down to 0 to 3 mths and i did feed her because baby milk made her worse at the time and she wouldnt touch the soya milk at all the little green satchet (sp)of powder are what helped and she stayed on them till she was 2yrs old she loves her food now and ibecause we knew about it when the same thing happened to our granddaughter in october 2000 we knew what was wrong and at three weeks she too got the little satchets then some thing not sure what but it did the trick she is now a fussy 10year old

it will get easier i noticed when she could sit even propped up in a buggy the feeds stay put and remember he won't be little for long i hope you manage to get some sleep soon thinking of you best wishes mm7

Not strickly on topic, but this might make you all laugh, I've just found out that my sister in law has spent more of her outfit for my wedding than I've spent on the reception, including the booze!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if it makes me laugh or  Hester! One of the young women from work is getting married on Saturday too, I won't even start to guess what it is costing, and they amount the other young women are spending on outfits would feed my boys for a fair few weeks.

I hope this doesn't turn into a bun fight. :(

Like others I come on here for a bit of mutual support. Logging out now to do some baking. Hope all is well this evening. :)

It's that time of the month again! :D

Well, after chatting to some other neighbours it seems the parents of chav boy don't really want any trouble so when they come back from wherever they have gone I shall go and be having words.

I have been on the receiving end of persecution (because that's what it was) of neighbours who reported me to EN for the chiming of my clock, among other things! However, drum and base at midnight, especially in the week, is in a different league!

I love opera so it was always going to be my choice of um, volume. Plus it can lull you into a false sense of security and then wham! smack you between the eyes.

The exam....well I honestly have no idea. I just sit and wait but one thing is for sure, I certainly do not want to see a consolidation question again for some time!!!:rotfl:

It's been a lovely day here today, warm and sunny so have spent a lot of the day outside walking TB (labrador) and gardening. It will be strawberries for breakfast again tomorrow - yum!

I've been trying to have more No Spend Days and have hit on something that is helping so I thought I'd pass it on. I recently read a very old post that suggested you crunch all the numbers re giving up your car. Did that and am keeping mine because the benefits outweigh the cost to me personally. Not saying anyone has to do the same. The real thing I realised is that if I'm keeping the car I can "ignore" depreciation/insurance/tax/servicing - I'm keeping it so they will have to be paid. What I can change is the number of miles I do. My fuel cost is 12p per mile, so a round trip to Mr M is about £1, to Mr T about £2. Go once a week instead of several times and loads of £s saved.

No need to do your own maths - 12p per mile is probably right-ish for most cars and you can guess the mileage of your regular trips. I've racked up several NSD's recently so this is definitely working as a strategy. And if I cut 5 trips a week to 2 I'll almost certainly save enough to cover any fuel price hike.

Edit: Redlady - consolidation - eek! The theory makes sense but the practice.......... Still it's behind you now. Fingers crossed for you - results in August?
