Thanks lizzy, but I don't think they are. They are just straight thin little stalks that look like the flower has been cut off. I remember last year you could see the swelling behind the flower while it was still attached.
I know i should head over to greenfingered thread, but I don't want to bother them with a thread just about my courgettes.

    edit.
Thanks Haribo! Oh yes that sounds oh so true to life :D I obviously didn't even notice the male ones last year then :rotfl: Looking forward to the girls arriving then :D

for what it's worth I feel very welcome here thank you very much :D

    Me too :)
OS: DH allowed next doors dog to come eat the crumbs off the carpet so he didn't have to use electricity in using the hoover. Er hello, too far matey, too far! :rotfl:

Personally I think your DH was very enterprising. If you had a labrador the crumbs wouldn't even get a chance to hit the carpet :rotfl:

The child has just come in and asked for food. There go the last of the 30 fairy cakes that I made at the weekend then.

Cranky - Neals Yard is where I tend to get alot of my stuff or a health food shop.

Sorry to but in ladies but if you want really nice oils can I recommend Penny Price oils - google her or if you live near leicester she has a fab shop. If you want them just to clean with then anywhere will do but if you want them for the bath then these are really high quality oils. If you want organic redlady then try nhr organics in Brighton, they are also truly fab, but a bit more expensive.

I'm shopping for winter things ATM. Last night I ordered some pullovers, reduced from £30 to £7.50 each. got 3 of them for my DH. They have been dispatched this morning cant wait til they arrive. free postage and returns if they dont fit too. excellent.
I've started doing preparations for winter as well-how sad is that-it's hot and sunny outside and i'm getting excited for winning winter boots on ebay for DD6!
Very productive day for me today.Bought 16 kgs of tomatoes yesterday in our local grocery so now i'm very proud owner of 4 jars of slow-baked and 3 tubes of sliced and frozen tomatoes-never did this before but hope they'll turn out ok.Our flat smells divine now-baked tomatoes, garlic, oregano, freshly made bread-even managed to make a cake for lunch.
Bought ground nutmeg in Sain.s-since when it's £1.25?Last time I boght it it was around 70 pence!

Hester - my wedding is in 8 weeks and certain guests have spent more on their clothes than my outfit costs! Neice has bought a bag which cost more than my flowers I got off ebay - they are lovely and the previous bride sent a lovely message with them.

Off on DS2 school trip tomorow - £16.90 for the two of us to the sea life centre.

Next week im going to the liverpool philamonic with DS1 class and thats for a morning only and its £6! We could go on the train for less as we are five minutes from the train station. Feels like a very expensive month...

Got flowers on lots of the veggie plants, but can anyone suggest why my courgettes keep flowering but I'm not getting any courgettes?? The flower seems to "fall off" just leaving a stalk behind. Only my second year growing them so a rank amateur :o

I think that you have only had male flowers so far - they are edible but no courgettes will grow behind them so they are just on a thin stem.
Female flowers have a slight swelling behund them which grows into a courgette.
You can pick the male flowers and chop them into salads or stuff them
(eg with cream cheese and herbs or with a flavoured rice mixture) and eat them or you can (if you can be hassled) dip them in batter and deep fry them as a sort of tempura.
