Hester how funny!
Things are starting to ripen in the garden, yay! No apples (no apple blossom for some reason), but the strawberries and raspberries are turning pink. The 1st lot of salad leaves are ready too. The second lot are coming along, and the 3rd lot are in the propagator. I bought the house elf (ds aged 6) a small solar fountain this year. The cats think it's a fabulous water bowl.
I've been plodding along with emptying our junk room of things that belonged to DH. I managed to get rid of a box of weird little metal things today to the electrician working next door. I can even see quite a bit of the floor up there now.....
Tomorrows project is to make some cookies for the elf. I've just printed off the recipe for Millie's cookies that I had from somewhere on MSE. It's also shopping day, so in preparation for starting the winter stock pile, I've sorted my cupboards out and made sure that the oldest stuff will be the next used.
Take care all of you0 -
Hester that's hilarious. :rotfl:
Cranky, clearing out hubby's things can't be easy but your courage and positivity throughout all your trials amazes me. :A
Lizzy, good luck with the continued NSD's. We too need our car but use it less and less and work from home more than travel to the office as it's costing us too much every day in petrol.0 -
I never thought of that - what a great idea thanks
ETA - where will i get lemon oil or tea tree oil?
Boots the Chemist?
Local health food shop?
Local New Age shop (probably the best source of supply) - if you have one that is (identifying signs = candles, Buddhas, crystals, books on angels, etc in the window). Aromatherapy oils won't be in the window though - as they are more light-sensitive - but its a safe bet that any shop stocking the above will likely have these oils on an inside shelf.0 -
 I didn't think it was possible to have uneaten Easter eggs, I've even bought them from the market after Easter when they're selling them cheap.
I babysat for my friend the other day and I counted 8 uneaten eggs in her dining room, there was even a Thorntons one there! Poor chocolate, just left lying round, what is this world coming too?
Ha Ha. Im still working my way through the thread but wanted to respond to this post. As a midwife I used to work a lot of nights doing home births. One night I was so tired and so very hungry having worked for 19 hours with a few more to go. The family had absolutely nothing in (which is inexcusable really because at the top of the home birth list is tea and biscuits) .....EXCEPT 2 easter eggs sat on the shelf in the kitchen winking at me everytime i walked past. Well when I left there was only one egg but a new babyAnyway back to page 170...........
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

They are indeed Lizzy...8 down only another 6 to go!!!! Finally the living room can be a living room and not a study with every spare inch covered in books!!!
Jackie - many congrats on the job. And dont get me started on the dual personality who lies like a dog...:D
You can come to my cottage. I have oils, 3 legged toads and buddas abound! :rotfl:
Hahaha Molly, I dont think they could complain too much considering.
Cerwiden - thanks for the PM. x0 -
Cranky - thoughts are with you as OH has just finished clearing out the loft. He is finding all sorts of things in there from his wifes life before him!0

Evening all,
I am definitely struggling to keep up - but it is worth it, there is so much useful information here.
Good luck to everyone who has exams at the moment: I remember only too well what it's like.
Jackie I hope the presentation goes well.
Dee I agree with what alot of other people have said about hm presents, and I love it when people bring me a jar of jam or whatever. Stick to your guns and principles - and hurray that OH managed to get out for a bit today. It must be so hard watching someone you love struggle.
Kimitatsu thanks for the apricot curd recipe - I'm pleased you can use dried apricots: I will probably give it a go in the autumn.
I'm enjoying generating my price book: i'm beginning to see how useful it will be. My plan is to try and stockpile when things are on offer and to have enough basics in store to get me through next winter. Then some of the money I would have used on groceries can be put toward the horribly high cost of utilities.
Right I'm off outside to remove broody hen from the nest box again! Have a good evening all.0 -

(I didn't get the job yet, just the interview)
Think positive - you are the best person for the job, it has your name written all over it and it WILL be yours!
Yes, apparently tomorrow will see the return of autumn. One of my friends used to joke that you knew it was summer in Scotland when people swapped their duffle coats for raincoats. She wasn't far wrong but I keep reminding myself of the American lady who, when I was whinging about our weather, said it was the moist weather that gave us all such beautiful clear complexions.0 -

Thank you. People have worse to cope with...he died quickly and George didn't see it happen. These things I am thankful for, along with life insurance (my mate died aged 29 and didn't have any so I've always been very careful). I had a good life before I met him, then my life was amazing, and now it's back to good. I have spoken to a lot of people who think their life stopped when their husband died, but I am my own person, and also for the sake of George who deserves a good childhood I will make the very best of what I have and try not to dwell on what I don't have. You can come to my cottage. I have oils, 3 legged toads and buddas abound! :rotfl:
Where's the best place to get Neroli from do you know?Cranky - thoughts are with you as OH has just finished clearing out the loft. He is finding all sorts of things in there from his wifes life before him!
Paul kept more or less everything he ever had that didn't break (and quite a few things that did :rotfl::rotfl:) There are fencing swords, martial arts clothes, fishing stuff, cameras that I can't even say the name of.....and I also found the instructions for his first ever mobile phone. Your OH and I would have a lot in common it seems0
