It would be a shame if the thread ended up cliquey and posters with a different view or posting style felt unable to come here, something which it has sadly been accused of in the past.
Sadly, that particular horse bolted a long time ago.

Decided to bite the bullet today & have placed an order for a new boiler.
My present boiler has just had its 24th birthday & lots of the parts are no longer available.
Present boiler has an efficency of 65% & the new one will be 92% so should make a decent saving on gas this winter.
Like lots of you on here I am alarmed at the thought of the rising gas & leccie prices. I switched supplier a couple of months ago for a small potential saving but have now changed to a fixed rate deal for 2 years with the same supplier. Will initially be a bit dearer but if rates go up the same as Scottish Power (which I'm sure they will) I'll be saving.
Have taken long enough catching up this afternoon on everyones post so better get back to listing on ebay.0 -
Kidcat how much water do you use to dilute your Stardrops? I found OH had put it neat in a spray bottle-eek!

Really?? I'm still pretty new to this thread, and don't feel it's cliquey - sure, there's friendships that a newbie might not feel they can intrude on, but it's like that on any long thread, anywhere. As long as you don't just barge in and troll/spam/continuously OT/deliberately find arguments or flame at will, then you're welcome....surely?
I don't want to lose this thread, just reading it makes me feel part of something stronger than "just me" against the world. So I'm going to try to sit on my hands until the problem is resolved (and I hope the mods don't resolve it by closing the thread!!).0 -
Afternoon All,
I have had a hard day at work today, but did get some good news, I have an interview for a new job on Thursday, it is only a secondment in the first instance but its fulltime (eek) and a huge increase in income for me, which would be great for the savings, and also for security as DH is in the building trade, and that's looking a bit ropey these days. I don't know what I would do with the children, but I will manage somehow -if I get it, that is!
Just my tuppenyworth on the carryon earlier on today in the thread, whether you know how to use the ignore function or not, it is possible just to ignore any posts which you find irritating. This thread isn't "ours" it is Martin Lewis' and none of us have any right to say who can or can't post on it. Delamo has already been chased off, although the reason people gave him a hard time was imo justified; but until this becomes a world where we are all officially segregated into sections, classes or whatever else, no one -especially not here where we are meant to support one another - has the right to push anyone else out. Has it not occurred to anyone that saveabobortwo may be mentally ill, or completely isolated at home with no one else to talk to (and then again maybe not)? I find it astounding that the volume of her posts has been commented upon, when we have at least one person on the thread who has completely fabricated at least two personas, who is welcomed and never questioned on the inconsistencies in their stories. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0 -
This post will probably get lost with the 'issues' on here but I thought I would just pop in and say hello.
Baby Daniel is three weeks old now and the tiredness is catching up with us now. He's not too bad but as mentioned previously he has reflux which means he is very sick after most of his feeds. This means that after feeds he needs to be upright for at least 30 minutes and this makes feeds last a long time. At night this means we're up for about an hour which is quite hard to stay awake for.
Anyway, not been very OS as have been getting convenience food as I'm just too tired to cook but will need to get my bum in gear and start meal planning again otherwise I'll be in serious money trouble very, very soon.
Our main expense at the moment is baby milk (I cannot breastfeed - funny how you think you have to justify yourself over this) which is £2.19 for 1 litre and my little man goes through one of these in 24 hours! This takes up over half of our grocery budget but there's nothing we can do until he's older. The doctors have advised that we use ready-to-use milk due to the fact he has a delicate tummy and until he is at least 2 months old.
Also as he was so big when he was born we needed to get him new clothes. He is in 3-6 months at only 3 weeks. Also need to change all his nappies as they are newborn and he is now in size 2. Luckily most supermarkets will let you exchange without a receipt so we loose no money there.
I've had the anti-social behaviour council officer round about our neighbours from hell to tell me what is going on. The case is that bad that our local MP is now involved, the head of the council, the chief police officer and various other agencies. The family are being taken to court next week and they needed my official statement (which will not have my address or name on due to the fact that the family itimidate anyone who speaks out against them). This will not lead to their eviction (need to wait until august for that) but should ease the situation. There are 30 households involved in this case that have been subject to abuse fromt his one family. Anyway, fingers crossed something is done as we had 8 police cars and 2 police vans blaring at 2am to come and dealt with a 'domestic' at this house. Luckily we were already up feeding the little man otherwise that would have been another hour with no sleep.
Did manage to get some whoopsied turkey strips yesterday so am cooking those tonight - making casserole and will make some rice with this.
Sunny today so I have put out some of OH's laundary to dry and will need to put on another load of washing after little one's next feed. At the moment we run the machine several times a day due to my little man being sick everywhere. We use towels to catch the worst but they need washing daily otherwise they really start to stink. Sorry, that's probably too much info.
I'll stop rambling on now and go off and think about doing a meal plan for the next week at least.
Hugs to all those who need them.'Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.'

Jackie - Since you started this thread, and since you have put it so eloquently in your post I am sticking my head above the parapet to agree totally with you. This is an open forum and as such anyone should be allowed to post. If you don't like what someone is posting skip over it and move on, we have no right to make assumptions about anyone contributing. As for someone posting a lot, same thing goes - just pass it by. Life is hard enough without making anyone feel excluded on a forum. By the way, this is one of my favourite threads and I quite enjoyed some of bob's humour.
Congratulations on the prospect of a new job Jackie, it is a big change going full time, but as you say the money will be nice. Just remember to look after yourself, and make sure the family take on their share of the household stuff if you are not going to be there to do it all.Sealed pot Challenge 2011 member No 1241 - Final total £154.21

Wow Jackie well said! - :T -- I dont want to get involved in this because it just gives them an excuse to shut us down. (again). But I do think this thread is something really special and unusual and truly has the old hard-times/wartime spirit at it's core and we must not lose it . Look how very down you often feel when scrimping and scraping forever without let-up...then you come in here and read somebody else posting the exact same thing and you instantly cheer up.
I rarely get out at all, spend most of my time in my house or garden, and you lot are my social life !! :eek:0 -
Jedi hugs for you, it sounds like you are coping remarkably well with everything, and never ever feel bad about the easy cook food, you are putting dinner on the table, and your children aren't going hungry, that's all that matters for now. I am still gobsmacked though that you are having to pay for your babymilk, especially if the doctors have suggested getting a particular kind. Could they not even give you a private prescription for a bulk amount to save you a wee bit? xIt's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0
