Hi all. Kimitatsu you've really made me giggle with your disappearing tank. Hope you're safe from the bears.

Kidcat hope you and the family are feeling better soon, and GQ good to hear from you again.

Happy to say that A1 is still avoiding his cloud and apart from giving me the 'why haven't I been taken for a walk yet' look is very perky and happily enjoying the good weather today. Two loads of washing on the line and it actually feels quite warm out. Going to take Junior for a walk in a minute and then A1 to a field where there will be other dogs for him to watch. Daft dog actually tried to chase a couple of whippets last week, talk about high expectations! They did belong to a friend I hasten to add who knows A1. He's still an impressive looking German Shepherd even though not all his legs know what the others are doing.

Over the weekend DH came up with an idea for insulating the windows and doors in the kitchen. I'd already thought of bubble wrap but he wondered if Aluminium thermal insulation sheets would be better. All our Kitchen doors (back door and patio doors)and windows are aluminium and the condensation is chronic so fabric just goes mouldy. It's sort of bubble wrap with plastic coated aluminium on both sides so thought we could hang it on hooks in the evenings, too bulky to try using it as curtains I think. Has anyone ever used it in this way? Would love to see if anyone has any experience using it before taking the plunge and buying it.

Right off to take Junior. Take care folks.

It is very hot in the garden. I have had a busy and productive day. I made rice krispie squares and pastry for pies for tonights dinner. Pies are great for using up leftovers. I picked up a few bits at Lidl.

A friend popped round and we had lunch in the garden. She was impressed with my hard work in the garden.

Eldest ds has gone to pick up youngest from school for me. I have a docs appointment for my shoulder this evening. When I get back hopefully the dinner will be ready. I hope that I get the all clear and can exercise again. A new gym has opened at the end of the road and I had a tour of it yesterday. I plan to join at the weekend. It will be good to have a swim every morning and the have yoga classes.

Well time to sort out the pie fillings. Good to see you back GQ.

  • Grey Queen, you can have some of my water if you like. I'm running out tubs, bottles and buckets to store it.

On the topic of HM gifts, I love such presents! It shows that the person who made it cares and took time out to think of me, which is much better than something that can be picked up in a shop at any time. For that matter, I have everything I need. I don't have everything I want, but that's another matter :D

I'd like to say a well done to everyone coping so well with money issues.

A friend of mine took ages to tell me she was having problems with money (debt and minimum pension). She was so embarrassed and ashamed, bless her. I convinced her to contact some debt people and they've helped her quite a bit. The phone calls are still coming, but don't get answered (caller ID is marvellous) - which she was adviced to do by the debt people. My friend now feels like a weight has been lifted off her shoulders and relaxes more. She deserves a bit of happiness so she's coming with on the hollibobs next month :j

Am having a lazy day, as work might call me out to cover a shift. I basically can't go anywhere. That suits me fine today, as I have an urge to go to a supermarket. This way, I can't, so I've already saved money today :)
Call me what you like, I was a bit "tiddly" when I chose my username

Tonight I will be the proud owner of a calor gas heater for the winter. £25 off a certain auction site. Its only a 5 min drive from where I live but with my record of getting lost it could take an hour :rotfl:. Hopefully I wont have to worry as much about being warm as I can get the gas bottles for about £14.

Ive had a water meter installed so lets hope that saves. Got a thermal door curtain for the front door.

Havnt spent a penny today and tomorrow is payday

    Thank you kimitasu,

Can I ask - how do you manage to lose a septic tank? Also if its metal would a metal detector not be better?

    HI all

Am safe from the bears :rotfl:they were either too scared to come out or were asleep!

Kidcat our house is really old the original part was built in 1744 and has been extended over the years. The plumbing some days seems to be equally ancient and so when the septic tank was put in, no one remebered to mark it on a map or with any real marker. Consequently its now beneath a laurel hedge behind the fence line in the adjoining woods :D Where both I and the driver assumed it was having "walked the drain" was a fresh water soakaway (explains why my trees do so well though) and the drain seemed to stop. A metal detector would only find the man hole cover assuming its made of metal and not concrete, and where we live there used to be a lot of WW2 aircraft activity so I could be here all day.

However living up to my name as a bit odd lol I dowsed the line instead and sure enough found the tank - well actually the entrance to the tank which is beneath the laurel bush and has a metal man hole cover. We have lived here for several years and it was only because the cottages along the way had a problem with their tank that I suddenly thought I had better do it before the winter sets in again, so I kind of assume it must be a massive tank since we have never had any issues with it :T

Its great living in an old house - you never know whats going to happen next! However I do know that the drought wont be a problem for the veggies :D

:D You are such a tease! I didn't think to peer into my lottie water butts when I was up there briefly last night, so am wondering how much they will have taken up on Sunday. It'll be a surprise for me tomorrow.

:) Still feeling knackered and chasing around on the back pages I missed whilst the pooter was hors de combat and I was wandering around in another part of the forest. :o I missed y'all. :o

Got a pile of ironing and a 4 pm teabreak over at SuperGran's flat so that she can update me on the latest doings here at Shoebox Towers. The water leak still isn't completely fixed; the area is cordoned off and they'll come back. SG spoke to the water company man on site and he told her that the pipes under there are very old. They've attended several times since the big burst in January, so I guess some bigwig will have to make a cost/benefit judgement about whether we get a new main or they keep patching.

Sadly, something went down on Sunday night whilst I was toiling my way back to the City from my camping trip like a drowned rat; SG knocked on my door briefly on her way past my flat first thing and said she'd tell me later. More blood on the walkways.......don't think anyone's dead this time, which is a mercy. I once had to make an emergency phone call to the parents as there'd been an Incident here at the Towers and I didn't want them to think for a second that I might have been the victim. We made the local telly news that night, apparently; Mum saw us.

Shoebox Towers, the place where they bring young police officers to show then all the bolt holes they need to know about and to meet the natives. I know I'm getting older and it's traditional to remark on it, but I'm sure I saw a lad down here t'other day in police uniform who couldn't have been a day over 14. Felt like warning him to get home for his tea, we've got villains around here who have been inside longer than he's been alive, times three!

Good job I grew up on a rough estate.........:rotfl:Seriously, if we could only get rid of a couple of dozen of the neighbours, all would be peachy.

Righy, must get weaving, seriously need to have an infusion of tea.

Hope everyone has a lovely evening, even if you have got my rain, snivel snivel sob sob......

I'm shopping for winter things ATM. Last night I ordered some pullovers, reduced from £30 to £7.50 each. got 3 of them for my DH. They have been dispatched this morning cant wait til they arrive. free postage and returns if they dont fit too. excellent.
  • Two days of no electricity supply (apart from one socket) and no hot water (boiler ignition is electric) as they're rewiring my whole flat. I shouldn't complain, only took the management a year to get round to doing the works after my wiring was condemned...

Been noisey with the drilling (where they couldn't remove the 40-year old cables). Could be another couple of days yet.

Can't concentrate on eBay selling or writing (sitting quietly in the corner reading this thread is keeping me sane at the mo!) - although I have managed to stash lots of lovely old copper cables as a brilliant start to wombling recyclable metals ;) Anyone know where I take them when I have enough to exchange for good hard cash?
