Just back from shopping in my Mums freezer, did ok but it took a 50 mile round trip and a wander round Dunelm - don't old ladies loiter a lot :rotfl: Made her buy a funky mop, we got a few bargains - new voile for my front window, from the remnant bin, a couple of pans for her and a union jack rubber duck for Dgs. Then she dragged me round Mr S for her heavy shopping then back to hers for a bit more scavenging :p I can hear her in the Cs she works in ' Ooh our ginny could use that, don't throw it in the bin!' It makes her happy though and thats the main purpose of our trips there.

Think we have a new contender for the pillow 'thats just right' for Mum. the search has been going on many many years. This time its one of those foam jobbies from another Cs still in the box. So in about 3 weeks it will be on my bed no doubt cos ' its rubbish ' Bless her little cotton socks,at 81 she still drives me to distraction but Im glad she is fit and healthy.

    Evening All :)

Thanks for that CC and redlady have ordered the book from Amazon for 1p (loads more left if anyone else needs them) so I will get cracking! I dare not count the number of windows I have or I will never get started lol but I do have a couple that are already interlined and they do make a difference.

Freudianslip dont apologize! We all mutter away to ourselves because lets face it if we ran bank accounts any of them ran the country then the bank would close them down! All I meant was that I dont think any of them are better than the other although I do agree that everyone should vote. Especially women, since its a relatively short time we have been allowed the vote. Having said that, in our local elections I voted for the person who could actually be bothered to get off their backside and walk up my drive to ask for my vote! I figured if the rest couldnt be bothered then they didnt deserve it :rotfl: Personally I realise that there had to be a shaking down in order for us to get back to some sort of status quo but really they need to be completely transparent and keep us all in the loop. Personally I am fed up of being told half a story all of the time only to find out later that some deal has been done under the table..........right I will shut up now!

Ceridwen book maven extroadinaire! Grow something every day arrived today and its absolutely fab! Even a numpty like me it gives you month by month instructions, what to do when to sow and when to harvest. I did find a book today though that may appeal to you (if you havent found it already) the womens book of herbs by Elisabeth Brooke. It lists many common herbs and what we regard as weeds and explains the properties of each and how they can be used for certain ailments. For example thyme for inflammation or syrup of thyme for whooping cough. Really interesting.

Modern Millie - sorry about the job but really enjoy the weekend in London.

Its been another lovely day today and have made the most of it as it will be cold here next week just as the boys go back to school. Although we dont appear to have any more rain. Still, if the weather stays dry then I can take down the laurel hedge that has been robbing the light out of the back garden. Technically its not on our land but the farmer is happy for us to take it down as he cant get a cherry picker in there, we had a quote and it was in 4 figures :eek: For the cost of some petrol and time then DH reckons he can get most of it down over a couple of weeks.

Next week I am going to do a full inventory of the freezer and cupboards as DH has been moving stuff about as I found out today when I realized where he had put the custard powder! You gotta love 'em (mainly because its illegal to shoot 'em) :rotfl:

Hope everyone else has had a good day :)

taurusgb - I had an early menopause and when I was offered HRT I didn't feel too happy about it (just a personal opinion), so I went to the library and took out every book I could find on the subject. I found that 'Natural Alternatives to HRT' by Marilyn Glenville was really helpful - .

I so agree, her book became my bible and I sailed through the menopause. Highly recommended

I have received a couple of very useful books from amazon, one was called `a month by month guide to organic gardening` by Lawrence D Hills and that was only 1p. The next book is a very good find, it is quite thick and there are lots of recipes for when you have a glut of a veg or fruit. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0903505924/ref=oss_product

read the reviews, this one wasn`t a 1p but was worth every penny

The e coli topic is getting rather scary and it worries me that the very best brains haven`t yet been able to pinpoint the source. There was a good right up in the mail I think.

I have ordered my flour for the winter, I get shiptons organic flour and it keeps very well in big lock and locks in a cool place. I see that some local; wheat farmers have ploughed up and are using their margins for wheat this year, not a good sign and I am expecting wheat to sell at over £200 a tonne, that is double last year

I have been buying some bargain fleece tops for the winter, there are some good buys around at the moment. OOh corrie is on now, its going from the sublime to the ridiculous

Just adding to the ants suggestions: They don't like pennyroyal. I buy a little plant each spring & squidge bits around the conservatory as soon as I spot the ants' advance party arriving.
