    Seems to be contradictory.

"As long as you are a main current account customer, just open and fund one of our variable rate savings accounts and we will apply the extra 0.20% AER."

    Followed further down by:
"For our main current account customers who already have a qualifying variable rate savings account, you will need to download and complete our simple form."

I read both those statements as saying: if you already have a savings account that does not currently benefit from the extra 0.2% then you need to fill in the form; otherwise, you will automatically get the extra 0.2% when you open a new account.

No form needed to get the additional 0.2% on new accounts.

Form needed to have it applied to any accounts opened prior to 4th (I think) Jan 2010.

    Cheers.

I tweeted them and was referred back to the page that says:
"Have an account? For our main current account customers who already have a qualifying variable rate savings account, you will need to download and complete our simple form." which left me none the wiser.

I see their Contact page says:
"Contact us by email. If you’re registered for Online Banking and you need help you can email us. Our help section aims to answer your questions."
But doesn't actually give any email address there which would have been helpful, some might think essential - nor a link to the 'Help' section which when you find it also doesn't give the email address or how to find it.

Wonderful stuff. I wouldn't rely on anything told me by phone by their call-centre either.

I hope you're sending them your bills for all this consultancy work. ;)

Just a quick heads up from the Ts&Cs (pdf - page 13) :-
If you close your Halifax Web Saver Reward during the Reward year, providing you meet the Reward conditions then you’ll earn the Reward interest rate up to the point of closing your account.
This suggests you don't need to leave at least £1 in the account until the end of the year in order to get the Reward interest.

"You must open and pay at least £1 into your account on the same day to qualify for Halifax Web Saver Reward." From the account T&Cs.
That's weird - seeing as it gives you the option to pay into it later as you open it online. Thanks for the heads-up anyway, I've stuck a quid in there just in case. Now to diarise for 11 1/2 months hence :)

The T&C that says "fund on the day" is to stop people claiming they should have had the Reward rate if they fund the account after it's been withdrawn.

But I'm not going to risk waiting a year to prove it!

    1. Can someone tell me how you set up the new style online banking?

    2. I have just tried to set up a Websaver Reward account, but it just says "web saver variable" - I cannot see the interest rate as I'm on the "old style" online banking, so don't know if I'm getting the reward rate or not.

You can't, Halifax put you on it when they want to.

You complete the application and select the option of NOT WANTNG A CASH CARD. I queried this when I opened mine, and everything went through fine, and 2.80% showed online the next day (the extra 0.20% won't show as they won't know until the 12 month anniversay whether or not you've stuck to the T&Cs).

Thanks. I did select the option of not wanting a cash card. My account is showing as "Halifax Websaver Variable" though, so I am not convinced it's set up as "Reward Websaver".

I'd email them, but it's very hit and miss that they reply at all & even if they do it takes at least two days.

Don't get me started on their hideously expensive 0845 helpdesk numbers! I'm trying to save money, not spend it.

The only other option I have is going into the branch yet again to phone from there.
