Ahhh! It's great to have a mechanic on the board!

Basically my filter is sooooo cogged up from years of not servicing it (not my fault, honest guv!) that it needs the filter changing and a complete oil change. Now the problem is that I live in Manchester which is 100 miles away from my Uncle who is a car-modger :) so i"m going to get the filter changed in Manc. then travel back (fingers crossed and praying for the engine not to seize) for him to do the oil change.

I don't understand why anyone would get aggressive about failing an MOT? Yes, it can be expensive but you kind of accept that when you get a car...

Mingle, I'm not technically a mechanic, but learnt a lot in 7 years.. and still learning! I'm mainly office/parts/customer based, but can do diagnostics and A/C re-gassing  Always make sure there's enough (not too much) oil in the car, and water/coolant is ok. Puntos are known for headgasket problems :s But if it's that the oil is just really dirty from not being changed, ask your uncle to put a good quality engine flush in it. That will help clear it out. So flush in, run car to warm up, change oil & filter. Then as EH said, another oil & filter change a month or two later (maybe another flush) to get all the carp out.

I remember one customer, would always neglect her car, once she brought it in as the 'brakes were a bit noisy and taking a bit longer to stop'. OMG. I have never seen before, or since, pads like that. There was nothing left on them!

You think you'd accept potential problems, but apparently not. I had to explain to one lady that the car might be only three years old, but it had done x miles, and tyres wore when in contact with the road. It only failed on one tyre, but she really kicked up a fuss. It's like talking to a brick wall half the time, saying the same thing over and over, showing it to them, explaining, but everyone thinks every garage is a rip-off, so I try to persevere & keep calm. Got nothing to fear if you're honest as I say.

I have been keeping up with the board but every time I started typing a reply on my mobile somebody would call me away. Been a fairly hectic weekend, and woken up feeling a bit like I'm getting a cold+headache.

Good luck with handing the dissertation in charlie :) And good choice with the job. It is a catch 22 but you're already going through enough stress, that would have just added to it.

rosemary I hope you're ok *hugs*

Happy belated birthday lovethembargains, I hope you had a great day :T

mags - keep meaning to ask, what are you studying for/at?

xoxo you didn't buy anything from nails inc did you? I'm trying to curb my habit!

Absinthe glad you had a nice holiday :) Any update re: your friend in Japan?

I can't remember if I told you all about my NPI last Wednesday? Not really a fan of TK Maxx as I can never find anything, but popped in last Wednesday, and it was an organised one!! Nearly fainted with shock. Almost picked up Leighton Denney duos, then thought of my 80 polishes at home, then thought, but I don't have these colours, then thought, but I have some similar. So after picking up all the packs to 'check' I already had similar colours, I walked away. With an Osprey wallet and some Everlast handweights :D

    UUs
Lush Cinders Bath Ballistic - WIBA? I think so. I really wasn't keen on ballistics to begin with, but I think some of them I enjoy the scent a lot, and others just do nothing for me.
Boots Extracts Almond Body Wash 75ml - WIBA? When I've finished the ones I have in the stash from the sale, maybe. Or maybe I'll be fed up of it :p
    Binned
Maybelline Pulse Perfection mascara - WIBA? Yes. When I run out of stash so I'm thinking next year. I really liked the brush, and used it with and without the 'pulse' depending on whether I wanted volume or not. I felt awful binning it, but when I applied it on Saturday, it had dried out a bit and just wouldn't go on how I know it used to. Not done too badly though as it's been open a year & I've used it on and off :o

Right hand nails are already chipped (no top coat) with all my running around yesterday, so might change them tonight.

Was wearing sandals at the weekend with a Nails Inc pale blue (can't remember the name) and my sister said my feet looked nice!!! She never says that! She always says they look awful, so I guess the S&G Heel Genius is doing something :j

Sorry for the long post, and if I've missed anyone that needs a hug or a smile or anything *hugs*

Oh yes EH the spendy elves have definitely moved in with me - we bought some new furniture yesterday :)

i'm quiet proud of myself as i can't ever remember using so many products in a week let alone an evening. Oh and i've done my first full body brush and plucked and shaped my eyebrows which is another job i hate doing.
    Well done that woman!

Hope you found the experience a pleasant one!
As a well - known brushing addict of this forum, I'm very keen to recruit others to the cause. I don't use body scrubs but use this instead.

You should always brush upwards towards the heart apart from on the trunk - tummy, kidneys and any bits of the lower back you can reach - where circular motions are best.

As Nivea lotion can be used as both cleanser and body moisturiser, I thought I'd go experimental and try using Virgin Vie hypo- allergenic cleanser - a white lotion - as moisturiser along with the fast-disappearing Nivea this morning.
It didn't rub in very quickly, so that idea may not be repeated, although it may be useful if I run out of lotion at any point.

My scalp is still slightly itchy at the back following the Clairol Foam use a few weeks ago, I'm trying not to scratch it, but I'm really quite concerned. I've never ever had this reaction from a colourant and I'm worried that it means I won't be able to use a colourant again. With good use of intensive conditioners, the condition has improved drastically, but it needed to.

Hi everyone - hope you all had a lovely if not busy weekend

charlie - hope you sorted out your dissertation

I have no ins to report :)

And some UU - Aussie 3 minute miracle - WIBA - Yes and have put the new one in the shower already :D

Imperial leather shower gel - WIBA - not neccessarily, it did the job and only cost 50p at a sale. Have a huge stash of others.

Aveda curly hair shampoo - WIBA - probably as it was quite nice - but  have a stash of other stuff to use up first.

The accompanying conditioner has developed a split in the top so not using the usual spout just squeezing the tube so it comes out of the split - otherwise too much waste :rotfl:

Good luck to everyone looking for jobs - it is tough out there!

I went for an interview 2 weeks ago and dissapointedly didn't get that job - still looking.

I am really struggling with my Flake Away, have used it twice now, the mess in the bath is a pain but i can cope with that, what I really don't like is that nothing lathers up on my skin when i have used it, so when I try to wash using shower gel and a puff the bubbles just die. Massive pot and i really don't know what to do with it.

    .

Oh are you supposed to shower gel aswell, after you have used a scrub? I just use a scrub- am I missing an opportunity to UU some shower gel??

Funnily enough you guys talking about dinner parties, I caught a bit of Come Dine with me over the weekend - how funny is that! So who do we have so far, Vivh, Jeremy (philanderer) Clarkson - and who else...hmm...will have to ponder that one..!

One IN - boyf came back with a Helly Kitty Cherry Body butter for me from £1land, bless him!! He opened it and started playing with it!! I was about to tell him that it had to wait its turn and then stopped myself - ah, he was happy LOL!

    2 UUs here:

1 OHs bottle of Sainsburys Anti Dandruff Shampoo that he'd partly used and they must have changed the formula as it stopped working for him. So no I wouldn't buy again for him or me, it washed my hair ok but I don't have dandruff and need something slightly better than this longer term. But it's no longer clogging up the bathroom and Head and Shoulders seems to be working for him.

1 my massive (750ml) Tigi conditioner, the pump stopped working ages ago so moved on to scooping it out with my finger and I'm now defeated, couldn't get anything else out so it's in recycling. WIBA? Yes for the bottle if nothing else, started using in September and, with only a couple of weeks using up hair supply, I've used it solidly normally 6 days a week since September so pretty impressed with how it's lasted and the pump is due to that too. Nice product too.

Have ordered a different set of Tigi Shampoo and Conditioner now as no more in stash - well I've got 1 or 2 Hair supply's left so will use those with the dregs of the Tigi Shampoo that is left because I used the S&G shampoo out of tote bag for a while, and then start new ones together.

  • A UU to declare: Joules bath foam
Nice stuff that seemed to last ages
WIBA? well, this was part of a present (with a divinely smelling body butter that is lasting forever...). Don't think I'd bother buying for myself. Nothing really noticeably different from less expensive bath foams (except I suppose it lasts longer).
Saw that SuperD have 3 1lt bottles of own brand bath stuff for somehting like £1.97
Nearly bought 3 but remembered I've got other bath foams to use up first...
  • oops. Just remembered another UU:
S&G face wipes that came in the Christmas tote. Gld to have used them up at last. Not my favourite thing as I prefer water. Wouldn't buy them again unless they come as part of a set again....

Finally caught up with the thread! :) Sorry for dropping off the radar a bit but it's all been a bit mad here with signing up to agencies, going on interviews etc, but it does mean I've had very few opportunities to spend anything...

One OUT to report - my Body Shop Chilled & Breezy Roll-On deodorant. Probably WNBA as it smelt nice but I didn't think it was particularly effective. Have another one of these in a different fragrance to use up which smells better and seems to be more effective so will keep going with that.

    I also have two INs:

Simple Spotless Skin Rapid Relief Spot Zapper - bought this as my skin's been playing up since I moved to London so figured it was cheaper to buy a spot treatment than a whole new skincare routine, and I had a voucher for £1 off the range in Boots. So far it seems to be working pretty well.

Lush Oatifix face mask - picked this up on Saturday as they have a deal where if you take five clean pots back for recycling you can get a face mask for free. Haven't tried it yet - I'm saving it for Friday pampering - but it sounds really nice so I'm hoping for good things.

I'm also working on using up my Palmer's Cocoa Butter as that's starting to smell a bit funky and more 'vanilla' if that makes sense, and have a couple of shower products that are spluttering.

I've never used shower gel after using a scrub - to me it feels a bit wasteful and slightly pointless. But to each their own I suppose...
