Neil, your post is spot on here.

I was totally unaware that this thread had a proceeding one so when i observed post #2, I correctly pointed out (as did someone else) that 'Oopsadaisy' had 'jumped the gun' somewhat in advising the OP to ignore the PCN without establishing first whether it was a PPC or council. Then I was rudely told to 'read the OP agains and look for the clues' when of course there were none.

When challenged later, Oopsadaisy certainly did shy away from the fact that he/she had not considered the implications of informing other contributers that this topic had been running on a previous thread and the PPC/council issue had allreday been established there. But how are people supposed to know that if they havn't seen the other thread? Having more than one thread on the same topic causes confusion which can indeed lead to bad advice being given as inevitabley relevant info could be missing from either thread. IMHO, this is where the MODS should come in.

I'm sure that we all agree that in 99 out of 100 cases, PPC 'PCN's' can be, and should be ignored. They have no legal standing as a penalty which is what they are under the skin.

I myself, will check all the facts first before 'jumping in' and telling an OP to ignore but unfortunately, there are some who (and not just on this site) who have a more 'Cavalier approach'. Although Oopsadaisy (as it turns out) is giving the correrct advice in this instance, his/her style of posting suggests to me that he/she falls into that catagory.
    PLEASE NOTE
My advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.

    Oopsadaisy:

If you seriously think that multiple identical posts (there's four in this thread alone) are not irritating and are the best way of responding to new posters, try posting it on Pepipoo again and again and you'll quickly find out what happens on a properly moderated forum. You'll be seen off sharpish.

My post covers 95%+ of all scenarios 'asked' about on here.

It contains advice which has been tried, tested and proven.

I'll ask again......Which bits are wrong???

So far my main crimes have been.....

    1. Posting the same advice several times............gee maybe that's because it's the right advice. [If posting the same advice was a crime there would be no regular posters on here....count the number of 'ignore it''s there are on this board.]

    2. Posting advice on a question where it wasn't clear if it was a PPC or council. The ambiguity was cleared up 2 minutes after I posted but apparently according to NeilB this two minutes is enough for the OP to rack up debts of £400-£700 because they have taken my advice. Neil thens says that if this happened to him [ie he racked up debts of £700 because of a tweo minute delay] he would sue me and take MSE to court and 'i know my rights [or drivel to that effect].

    3. Oh and then I'm a PPC troll...but the clever bit here is that I'm using reverse logic or witchcraft to tell people to ignore all PPC correspondence so that they all actually pay the PPC or even better lose their houses.

Come on people, get the stones.

I think it is UKPC who distribute the parking tickets on behalf of West Quay retail park in Southampton.

West Quay in Southampton is a Pay on Exit type set up (isn't it?). How could you overstay by ten minutes?

2/. You continue to shy from taking responsibility for the extremely risky post#2 you made here.
The potential cost to a recipient of a Council PCN, for London by example, would be circa £400- £700 as a starting point and rising exponentially.

    Neil

For your issue wrt misleading advice costing the OP money here’s what would have to happen.......

    OP logs question.

    I post reply.

OP sees the reply within 2 minutes of me posting it.

OP logs off MSE instantly and never ever ever logs back on again.

Now how likely is that to happen???

I feel you must be viewing the OP as somewhat of an idiot if you feel thats a likely or even a remote possibility.

Your post is quite alarmist. It is simple fact. If you can't see how such a misplaced post as the particular one I referred to would put an OP at risk of considerable financial loss then that is your problem I acn imagine It could be a problem for you when it happens.

I won't dwell on highlighting the ridiculous nature of your comments [boring for all others] but on a positive note I have taken on board your concerns [however unfounded they may be]. Was anything I said inaccurate? Cite that part or parts please.

As such I have altered my advice and here's what it now says......[would welcome your feedback again] You are welcome.

    PPC Advice

If it's council/police - go to Pepipoo forums and post the details and a copy of the PCN [front and back] on there. Council/Police issue Penalty Charge Notices [and are the only ones allowed to do so]. Wrong.

If it's a PPC then......they issue ‘invoices’ [often made to resemble official PCNs]; often call their invoices Parking Charge Notices [same initials, see part of the scam]. These are legally unenforceable as [leaving aside signage, etc] the PPCs needs to prove who was driving the car [not just name the Registered Keeper (which is all the council/police have to do)] Wrong. Nothing else matters.

So in essence if it's a PPC...

Ignore everything Wrong.[unless you get an N1 from the court].

    Really...ignore everything. Wrong.

    Seriously...ignore everything.

    Truly...ignore everything.

Details of your case....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

Name of retail park/store....totally irrelevant Location IS so...ignore everything. Wrong.

    Town....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

Reason given on ticket....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

    Name of PPC....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

    Date....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

    Time....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

    Day....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

    Blue badge....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

    Parent & monster space....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

    Amount of fine....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

Spoke to store manager....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

Debt Collector letter received....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

Name of debt collector....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

    Threatened court....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

Contents of debt collector letter....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

Extra ‘admin charge’ added....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

Solicitor letter received ....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

    Got a telephone call....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

    You were ill....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

Only nipped in for 2 mins....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

    Left and returned....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

But I did what they say I did....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

Anything else relating to a PPC invoice....totally irrelevant...ignore everything.

To save time - Wrong, to 17 of the remaining 23. OK?

    Very likely.

It is quite likely an OP may have a pre-formed view, from having read other posts here and elsewhere and yours becomes the straw that breaks the camel's back - finally persuading them.

Yes it could just be seconds to do the damage and all of the important correspondence, not limited to decrim Council tickets, would be ignored by someone feeling confident in the advice YOU had offered.

You have a real problem with responsibility, notwithstanding the irritation people originally complained about.

Are you suggesting that isn't a possible outcome? The debt pales into insignificance compared to the upheaval, stress and feeling of personal loss of those who choose to ignore the wrong thing!
Neil thens says that if this happened to him [ie he racked up debts of £700 because of a tweo minute delay] he would sue me and take MSE to court and 'i know my rights [or drivel to that effect]. No, I said it would be the first point of investigation for consideration of an action. I remain unclear on the legal standing of posts on an internet forum.

    3. Oh and then I'm a PPC troll...but the clever bit here is that I'm using reverse logic or witchcraft to tell people to ignore all PPC correspondence so that they all actually pay the PPC or even better lose their houses.
You twist words again. I wrote in clear English. I referred specifically to the possibility of a ppc troll giving such advice to a recipient of a legitimate notice that must be actioned.

Come on people, get the stones.
