i know it's an old wives tale but my first was a monkey and i had terrible heartburn and sickness, my second was 'normal' and i didn't get heartburn much at all.
i was sick with most 'serious' cures but the remegel chews, tums or refreshers worked for me but you need absolutely loads of them.
ice lollies worked better than anything else.
good luck!52% tight0 -
I bought large packets of spearmint rennie during both my pregnancies - it worked a treat.
Have you tried some sort of heartburn remedy cos doctors say it's ok while your pregnant as your bits are so squashed - use them and don't feel bothered by it cos it won't harm baby. I knew some mums-to-be who drunk gaviscon straight out of the bottle and could get thru a bottle in a day if it was particularly bad - all had healthy little-uns.
Never heard of hairy baby wives tale at all - both of mine had just a smattering of fair hair when born so didn't apply in my case. You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs:rotfl:

Never given birth myself, neither human nor primate, but have suffered terrible heartburn over the years.
Nothing is perfect, but I have found the following to be pretty effective:
1. Remegel or Gaviston, as previously mentioned.
2. Tums - grossly underrated and taste delicious.
3. Ginger ale - without the whisky (in your condition)
4. Plain old-fashioned gripe water. Expertly save money and buy an industrial drum as you will be needing it in the months to come.0 -
GAVISCON GAVISCOCN GAVISCOn by the bucket load for me. I don't think there are any restrictions on how much you can have so have some whenever it is bad. I didn't even bother with a spoon in the end! Try to eat very plain food jacket potatoes, cheese, pasta etc. Nothing too acidy or spicy and that should help...hope babe appears all safe and well for you.0

I had terrible indigestion - Gaviscon helped a certain amount, but sometimes nothing would shift it.
My little monkey had so much hair on his head that it interfered with the suction on the ventouse. Had to use forceps in the end - ouch!:eek:0 -
lol my monkey is 4 weeks old and i had the worst heartburn, she has a hairy back and a full head of jet black hair, and for some strange reason hairy ears?!
anyway i found that eating melon that was really cold helped, i would just cut one up into a tub and keep it in the fridge and eat when required. oh and gaviscon i would wake up in the night with heartburn ouch! plus a face stuck to the pillow as i had dribbled so much!!!0 -
I'm suffering with indigestion too (I'm only 4 months pregnant....eek!), and I'm finding that peppermint tea helps a lot.
I tried peppermint cordial (tastes gorgeous with soda water but doesn't help much lol) and Gaviscon (does help but tastes horrible), but peppermint tea seems to really settle it. Eating little and often, with no fried foods and nothing overly spicy seems to help too (never have curry and orange juice together......I had acid pouring up the back of my throat for hours!!).
Hope it settles down soon for you - you haven't got long to go, but I bet it feels like forever if you are really suffering with the indigestion. All the best for a good birth......just like shelling peas, don't forget!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -

I had Gaviscon on prescription too with my other two, and used to drink the stuff by the gallon! This time, I was told by my midwife that they no longer prescribed Gaviscon, they'd switched over to something called Peptac... Well, I gave it a go, but it was vile! It made me urge every time I took a swig, so next time I put in for a repeat script, I wrote underneath that I wanted Gaviscon because Peptac made me vomit. Well, it worked, as I've been getting Gaviscon ever since - thank goodness! That peptac stuff was like drinking veg-oil with anisseed flavour! YUK!!!0 -
ooobedoo wrote:Thank you all, I am drinking so much milk. Apparently this can neutralise the acid.
I used to drink milk like it was goin out of fashion, that helped a lot. Better than gaviscon anyday ! Didn't suffer as bad with 2nd, but the 1st was the worst (he was a boy)Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
