Your thread raised a laugh with me. When I had my first baby more than 20 years ago I had the worst heartburn EVER from about 5 months onward. I tried EVERYTHING and like you I was worried my baby would be King Kong (I'd already been warned he would be a whopper). Nothing worked for me, although peppermint cordial eased it for a while, but baby wasn't the hairy little thing I thought he would be.
I hope you find something to 'cure' your heartburn because it has to be one of the worst feelings ever. Good luck with the birth.0 -
Extra strong mints worked for me!!!
Mind you i did have 3 monkeys!:rotfl:
All the best0 -
Refresher worked for me upto a point, apart from that it was copious amounts of Gaviscon. You have my sympathy it was hell. DD had so much hair that she had to have the fringe trimmed at a month old.Sorting my life out one day at a time0

I had Gaviscon on prescription when I was expecting #2 and #3......Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

I've been given some stuff on prescription as I get the kind of heartburn that travels up my throat into my face and gives me a blinding headache. And it makes me throw up. Ask your GP, midwife or obstetrician for something on prescription. (Your midwife can't prescribe but she can ask a doctor to do it on your behalf.)
Truthfully, nothing is working for me and I'm in a wretched state today. I feel for you. However, you've only got a week of it left and I've got 3 months to go so my sympathy can only extend so far! LOL
Very best of luck both for getting through the last stretch and for the birth and all the fun afterwards! xMay all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Sorry to be dumb, but are you all referring to the theory that if you have bad heartburn/indigestion during pregnancy then your baby will have lots of hair?
My sister kept quoting this at me when I was pregnant with no2 as I had to practically live off Remegels, Rennies, Tums etc etc throughout. It constantly made me sick and was a real pain!
My daughter had practically no hair (she's one and still has very fine blond hair).
I've got it again this time round too, I don't really want a hairy baby but realize that old wives tales are just that!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Thank you all, I am drinking so much milk. Apparently this can neutralise the acid.
I had a little discomfort in my first pregnancy but this is awful(my son came out really hairy!!!-old wives tale).
Gingham-you have my totaly sympathy, I had put mine down the the fact that I am 5ft and am having a 11LB baby(at the last count)Oh....I'm not going to lie to you......At the end of the day, when alls said and done......do you know what I mean.........TIDY0 -
Nothing wrong with gorillas!:D
I wonder if SIL had heartburn with her first....her DD came out with a MASS of thick (but fine...if you know what I mean)...fair/blond hair....she reminded me of those pics you see of really cute east asian babies....only blond....absolutely gorgeous!0 -

YOUCH! Will you be having a ceaser then? Woman in work ended up having a ceaser with her first...he turned out to be near 12Ib odd I think..and she is about 5ft...I know that doesn't mean anything but....OMG the thought of giving birth to a babby that big.......... I'd best shut up...or I just know what will happen with my first! Whoever is 'upstairs' likes to test me;)
I've not got any children yet...fun practicing though:D So far as I know...most babies on my side have been in the range of 6/7Ib's....OH's side are heavier:eek:0 -
I think milk makes it worse if anything, it seems to work initially then the stomach makes even more acid to digest it. I had dreadflulheartburn with all my 3 towards the ends of the pregancies, had to sleep sitting up with about 4 pillows. They were all bald as coots though!0
