Really can never understand why people go for crappy tyres. They will let you down when you need them most...

    £30 for a tyre....wouldnt touch with a bargepole.

Agree with this, tyres are probably the most important part of a car, they keep your fast tin box safely on the tarmac!

Oil has risen sharply, so the cost to manufacture will go up too...

a new tyre for 30 quid, maybe on a tricycle. my mondeo tyres are 130 quid each, tho the company paid for those....

    What?

The most expensive (top rated) tyres for my mondeo were/are Michelin Energy Savers at £75 at my local garage. (205/55/16)

If budget tyres were no good they wouldn't be on sale in the UK.

I have budgets on mine, £50 a pop fully fitted, and I honestly notice no difference to the goodyear that were on them previously.

Trouble is, like most "budget" products, they are a false economy. They won't last as long and don't perform as well as more premium brands. Over the space of three or four years you might find you need to change your tyres two or three times more often, than you do with "premium" tyres.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

Galaxy tyres have NEVER been £30. Ever.

Galaxies take tyres with special reinforced side walls and they aren't cheap.

If you are running a Galaxy with the wrong tyres on, your insurance will effectively be VOID. The first thing that insurance companies look at on Galaxy claims is the tyres, because it is an easy way to avoid paying out.

I find local tyre companies best value - usually a few quid less than any of the BlackCircles-type websites.

We don't know how much tyres for a Galaxy use to be, as my mum has only had the Galaxy a month now.

I'm at least £200 a tyre (225/40 R18) (I really should start using Black Circles)
I pay more for 'soft' tyres which increase grip, at the expense of reduced life span.
I could put cheaper harder tyres on which would last longer.
So, the false economy comment above depends on the tyre.

You posted that you were being ripped off because the tyres for a galaxy cost more than the tyres for a corsa? Were you really expecting the same price?

Lol, that's the same size as mine, and as I said earlier I paid £500 for 4 conti's, so I think you've been getting done paying £200 a tyre. What tyres were they?
