My mum's car had developed a puncture through the tyre wall. As it's through the tyre wall, it can't be repaired.
My brother who works as a mechanic got her a price from a local dealer.
The new tyre will cost £85 per tyre. As my brother knows the manager, he can get it for £70. These are not the premium tyres as it's for a simple Ford Galaxy.
I remember that mid last year a new tyre would have cost £30.
For the fuel goes up, then road tax and now tyres, now I here the government wants to run diesels off the road. How long will it be till there's barely any cars running???

Running a car is expensive, and unfortunate fact of life!!
I would suggest that your mother order her tyres online for fitting, it will be much cheaper than a local garage. I save over £100 last year by getting 2 new tyres ordered online and fitted locally.0 -
What size is the tyre?If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

That sounds a lot for a tyre, especially if its going to go through trade price, has you brother gone to a independant place or nationwide as most of the cheaper places tend to be run by the owner not a manager.0

Why is the Government to blame for the high price of this tyre? Was talking to a friend today who mentioned going to the Toyota branch for a tyre last week, which was £52 and included a free valet/car wash and cup of tea.
Online is cheapest, otherwise why not go to KwikFit?0 -

...just what has the OP done to upset you that much ??0 -
A ford galaxy is not a small car, I would be surprised if you could get a tyre for it for £30 last year. Last year I paid in the region of £50-£60 for a budget tyre for a Ford Fusion.0

I had a Peugeot 407 and the alloy valve snapped off whilst I was putting air in my tyre, put the spare on and took it to my local tyre place who said it would cost a couple of hundred quid because of some sort of sensor in the tyre. I ended up trading it in a couple of days later and the dealership only knocked £50 off the trade in price they'd given me before. I could have had a normal valve put in for a tenner but it wouldn't have been connected to the sensor so I figured as I was trading it in anyway i'd leave that decision up to the person who was going to sell it.If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00

From the thread title thought it was going to be about hidden speed traps in a place called Tyres0
