I know - I'm getting excited too now as we made the provisional booking with our venue today - sending off the paperwork tomorrow to formalise it :j

On the other hand, my mum's already trying to muscle in a bit more than I'd like - telling me that we "won't have time" to make our own save the date cards, so she'll order them for us online... Um, it's two years away, of course we have time to make cards! We're also trying to cut the guestlist down to keep the numbers reasonable - my mum seems to think that anyone whose name *she* doesn't know can be crossed off! Arrrrrgh, rage... Any tips for dealing with bossy mothers?

It's all so exciting (I did hit a bit of a low the other day though when I looked at my budget spreadsheet and realised how much saving I need to do)

Could you give you mum a mini project? Like my mum is going to sort out the cake, drinks for the day and favours for me, that way she feels like she gets her input and feels like she's having a say and it means you get to do all the other things. If all else fails hide the guestlist?!?! :p

    Hi all,

    I'm a 2013 groom...

Just put down a deposit today on the venue (Turkey Mill in Kent) for the 27th July.

It sounds like a long way away, but I'm sure it will come around quickly!

    Hi,

I'm July 2013 bride, missed this thread somehow in my search, I felt weird having our date booked so far ahead, but I want to lose some weight, and I don't think I'll do it by July 2012, as well as preparing things for it so thought we'd have ours in 2013, and take it at a less stressful and leisurely pace :)

Glad I'm not the only planning so far ahead though.

You're not at all! My venue's being booked, our guestlist has been drafted and re-drafted several times already, etc :)

Thanks Eleanora. Congrats on finding a venue, and good luck with the guestlist... nightmare, not looking forward to it. We're keeping our wedding small, and I know some people are going to be hacked off, but what can you do :undecided

I didn't see a forum for July 2013, so I've started one called "July 2013 Brides and Grooms" if anyone else fancies using it if they have a July 2013 wedding in the making ( can't post the link unfortunately as I'm a new user :( )
  • Been doing a lot of bargain wedding shopping in the last few days and have purchased the following:

Wedding Guest book from M&S for £10 - they seem to be doing a whole new range of both wedding and new baby stuff in store as well as on-line, and after a rather amount of time spent researching prices/sizes for guest books, i worked out that this was not only gorgeous but also a good size!

Wishing Well from Birthdays for £5.99 - a very good price for this i think, they are sometimes three times the price just to hire one, although this is obviously card rather than wood, but it's got a lovely rose detailing, perfect if your colour scheme involves pastels/shabby chic, etc.

Yankee candle samplers (favours) x 18 for approx £14 from Clintons - at the moment some selected scents are half price at 82p each, which includes some really fab ones like water garden, beach walk, etc. So that's now 28 collected in total out of 70, phew! :D

Also got two matching peach roses from the Accessorize sale which will be the hair pieces for my two bridesmaids, or possibly brooches (they have both hair clips and brooch clips on the back!)

Our "wedding wardrobe" is now looking a wee bit crowded already! Goodness! I actually view planning the wedding as a fun hobby, and mainly keep all planning and shopping between myself and you lovely people, so not to drive my OH and family insane. And people do spend an awful lot of time on their hobbies...:rotfl:

Venue booked and confirmed, woo woo :j and I've just booked the registrar as well!

And on the subject of dresses, I've been looking into charity shop bridalwear - Oxfam, British Heart Foundation and a few others often have dresses donated by designers, and sell them for a *lot* less than the normal retail price. I've noticed that there's a St Ann's Hospice near me that has a good bridal department - I'll definitely be looking into that :D

So logically, the next thing on the list is "save the date" cards. H2B and I are planning on making our own, so should save some pounds there :money:

Ha - I'm already driving my mum and sister a bit mad with it - and am trying not to do the same to my OH...!

  • Hello!

We are looking at March/April 2013 - hopefully booking our venue in the next 2 weeks aaahhh!! So then I'll have a definite date.

I'm making invites etc myself and not having fancy cars but other than that we are hoping to go mid-range on everything else.

I can't believe how expensive everything is, we're going to have to save A LOT. But I've never had a big party or anything ever and our family live all over the country so I really want to have a true day to remember.

Someone we know locally has lived here all her life and knows everyone in the town so just had a do in nice local pub, which would be amazing! But like I say, doesn't really work for us.

But will only pay prices I think are fair :)
  • OK...so I've bought another few sampler Yankee candles, making 36/70 in total, a mere 23 months before the actual wedding! Goodness, i hope they retain their scents!! I've tied them up in individual baggies and put them in a wardrobe so hopefully they won't melt or anything!

Am being a total (inner) Bridezilla with them too, refusing to have more than two of the same scent, with the exception of "Wedding Day", and have been making lists so there are equal feminine and manly scents! :o

Also got a small cream basket with pink polka dot lining to use as the ladies emergency supply kit for the venue bathroom, have found the perfect basket at home with blue lining already for the guys.

Am now currently obsessing about By Appointment Only Designs. I keep seeing their exquisite flower arrangements in the bridal mags and REALLY want them to do our wedding, but unfortunately I'm not a zillionaire :( Might try to save a little harder once OH finishes his PC training.

Decided we will be doing a "Grab a Prop and Pose" corner next to the sweetie table, where we'll have our own camera on a tripod next to a box containing lots of dressing up bits and costume pieces, such as fake moustaches, sunglasses, hats, picture frames, etc. and encourage guests to strike a funny pose. It's cheaper than a photobooth but produces much the same effect. Perhaps a simple velvet drape or similar behind them would be all that's needed.
