    Hi
I couldn't wait till Weds to go shopping so borrowed £40 from DS [out of his money box that I'll pay back on Weds!!]

Shopping from sainsbugs came to £43 so need to update siggy

DH had a fall at work yesterday - not looking where he was going!! So he is off work now as he has badly sprained his ankle and he has pulled ligaments too. He is unable to walk at the moment. The really hard thing is that for the 1st 3 days he gets no sick pay so that means that next month we will be really short. The blessing is that he done it now and not just before we go on hols in June - silver lining and all that eh

    Have fun not shopping

    Helen x

PS - hugs for Candybelle, hoping tomorrow is less stressful for you
Projects made for craft fair - 40 :)
    1st fair on 13/4/14 :j

Got a whole pack of celery getting limp. Can I just chop and freeze or do I need to blanch/cook first?

I don't use celery so I searched on the Freezing tips thread and several posters on say its ok to chop and freeze to use later in soups etc ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

    Evening all
    Beautiful day here today...stunning!
Well had extra family for dinner and cooked a roast pork loin from freezer (bought when on special from Mr T's)
veg from freezer and pots...went down well very tasty indeed.

Did check on freezer and have most meals planned for week.
Spag bol and homemade pizza for tea tomorrow. (have dough left from making yesterdays tea..and pizza is hubbies favourite...so he gets that.
Hope to have an NSD tomorrow as I have no intention of heading into town at all.
Did friend a big favour over the weekend and was given a gift by his wife of £40. So shocked and delighted with this so this will go into the kitty for the week.
Feel as if I am getting back into the grocery challenge and thanks to all posters here. You are a super support.

Wot a great weekend!! Doesn't the weather make a difference to how you feel.

Well down to business - being careful with shopping:rotfl:.

I have been using some vouchers (fast becoming a voucher queen). Got £6 off a £30 shop in sainsburys. Had 6 weeks worth of these, then been doing remainder at tesco.

My kids have now broken up so things could take a nasty nose drive from here:eek:

Another NSD from me today - the only 'spending' I did was to spend the day in the garden! I asked my mum to come up and help me; I never ask her for help, so I figured she owed me!! We spent the whole day clearing and going to the tip and planting stuff and mowing the lawn and... and... and ... It's amazing how much 2 people can do in a day - I would've stopped part way through, declaring it's too hot for working, but because mum had travelled up to help, I had to keep going, and now I feel so good! Got my new pear tree into the ground, weeded by my raspberries, which are growing like mad at the mo, put 2 trees into pots, as I don't know where to put them yet - apple and plum. My old plum tree died 2 years ago. Sorted out the strawbs that I took as runners last year - free strawbs this year - YEAH!! Also got lots of seeds in the kitchen planted up, but can move these to the greenhouse as soon as I've bought some staging, as the greenhouse is now clear for the first time in 3 and a half years! Ch had a great time playing outside while we worked too, so fab day all round.

Dinner tonight was pasta, sauce, grated cheese and salad, as it was quick and easy to prep! Really enjoyed it though - a hard day's labour really makes you hungry! Just relaxing tonight, well, after I've made up the picnic for tomorrow's day trip! (Pub for dinner tom night. Not quite so MS, but well deserved!)

Overall spend of €82 this weekend. I spent €23 in M&S on Friday night, as my mum unexpectedly announced her intention of coming to dinner - I got deserts for Fri and Sat nights (when my sis was staying), 3 cheeses, guacamole for fajitas, and milk. When I got home ,the chicken I had planned on using (dated Sat 9th) was off so OH went out to get more and that was another €6.

On Sat, after we had been to the plot to plant the potatoes, OH and I went to Lidl for the "weekly shop" and spent €49, including a bottle of wine and 2 beers. And then I had to get bread rolls yesterday as we had already thought of BBQing so had sausages from freezer, but neighbours held a communal BBQ instead so I needed bread rolls to put saussies into.

We had leftovers from Sat's fajitas for lunch yesterday, and we're mostly working from stores this week.

The plan for this week is:
    Mon: Chilli (already made)
    Tues: Meatballs and oven chps
    Wed: Pork sweet'n'sour
Thurs: Prawns, tomatoe and veg sauce, pasta
    Fri: ?
    Sat: Fish
    Sun: no idea yet
    GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

    GC 2011:Overall Target: €6,000/
    €5,442 by October

  • Good morning everyone,

well the rain is back today but the sunshine was nice while it lasted.

Making lentil soup this morning, will make plenty so that some can go in freezer, if I can make a space.

Hope you all have a frugal day.
