Have just rushed out and got the Quark V5 from our local newsagent.
When trying to register it keeps saying cannot find server.
Have tried Firefox and Int Explorer but to no avail.
    Anyone else had this problem?

    Hi,

There's a problem with the site at Quark's end - apologies. Hopefully it should be back up and running this afternoon some time.

  • Thanks for your quick reply.

Will wait patiently for a few hours.

    Thanks very much
  • This is undeniably an absolutely stonking bargain - we still use QuarkXpress 4.01 every day at work to produce forms, brochures, posters etc and to get v5 for £3.50 is almost unbelievable!

However, QuarkXpress was not designed with the home user in mind so doesn't come with templates or wizards to guide you through making business cards or birthday cards or the sort of stuff that the traditional home user would want - so just something to be aware of.

Be aware that QuarkExpress 5 is the version where Quark lost the plot. It's the reason most newspapers stayed on version 4. It was released as sort of a stop gap between version 4 and version 6.5.

It's a bargin if your after QuarkExpress 7 as you can upgrade for a few hundred pounds.

BTW Quark is still industry standard in newspapers. Design houses may prefer InDesign, but then they originally used Illustrator / Freehand.

  • Got one!!:T

After trawling around town (Boston Lincolnshire) being told everywhere from whsmiths to tesco that both versions have been sold out for a couple of days I did as her in doors ordered and went to Asdo to do the weekly shopping.

Just looking, just in case, found a lone cd copy stuffed into the magazine rack by the kids comics - YES!

Would have preferred the dvd version so if any more do arrive in shops will pick one up. I'm sure I won't be alone in doing this, so I've got two copies for laptop and desktop, so this months circulation of computer shopper should be a darn sight bigger than normal!

Yes, yes I should renew my sub then I wouldn't have had to hunt in the firstplace!!
Fiscally responsible or just a tight git? :

Another reason this is fantastic for me is my version of Quark 4.0 came with a Parallel port dongle so I could only use it on my older computer!
  • Hi every time I try and register it says the web page is unavaible, is it just busy. Regards Mike:rotfl:

Windows version only I'm afraid ;)

    The Step-by-step says

"Each serial number of QuarkXpress 5 is licensed to be installed and run on one computer only. An individual or organisation is only permitted to install up to two licenses of QuarkXpress 5 provided that the equivelent number of magazine cover disks has been purchased."

Organisation seems to suggest it's fine for business purposes (though I suggest reading the terms and conditions carefully, so I take no liability :p)

Incidentaly, the email with the key does not come through straight away.
  • Hmm, stupid site being down =( We use 6 at university and it will be nice to be able to work on stuff at home in Quark rather than working in another program and copying it all over.
