Woolwich Bank Charges (merged)

  • Just about to embark on reclaiming from the woolwich and have a couple of silly questions:

    1. Do I actually need to write off to The woolwich to get a list of charges from the past 6 years? I have all my statements going back to when I opened the account in 2000.... but wondered if having an official list of charges from the bank helps with the claim? Money is VERY tight atm and could do without paying out for something I already have.

    2. As our woolwich account is soon to be effectively closed & a barclays one opened instead are there any issues with this that I should know. Do I need to write to the Woolwich or Barclays or both & what happens if my claim is still in the ether during the change over?

    TIA

No if you already have your statements just calculate your charges and what they owe you .Im with the woolwich but Barclays deal with it mores the pity as they are really dragging their heels,I started beginning of Feb and now at the court stage , but Ive decided to let a solicitor take over where I left off as Im not 100% sure about this stage.Send your letter to Barclays.it shouldnt affect the change over.Good Luck
  • Hi folks,

    An interesting update.

    This is my timeline:

7th March - I requested charges over last 6 years over the phone
8th March - Received standard letter from Cust Rel saying would receive by 4th April.
13 March - Received list of charges six years - Total over £7,000!

I expected to see note that they would come back to me in 8 weeks with an offer OR an offer now for £1000 max.

However, in the letter today, they are offering a full & final of...

    £5000+ straightway!

What that all about I wonder?

  • Hello Jiggles! Wow that is quick! I too am an openplan customer. I requested my charges over the phone on19th Feb, received standard letter of complaint 2 days later and since then, nothing despite 3 calls. i am off to ring them straight away after reading your post!
It is up to you wether you decide to accept the offer, only you can make that decision, but you could always try phoning them and seeing if they will up the offer......you never know!
Anyway good luck with the rest of your claim!:j :j
    Halifax- settled £1800 (spent)
    Woolwich settled £505 (spent)
    Capital 1- settled £1345 after defending on mcol (aw:j :j :j
  • Well have just phoned the bank(after reading jiggles post) apparently a letter has been sent out this morning- my charges total £674 and they have sent offer of £505. Not sure what I will do yet, tried to haggle on the phone but they would not offer any higher. i am tempted to take it as am also doing claim with Halifax (for larger amount) and am nearly at court stage and prepared to go all the way with that one, but don't really fancy the hassle of 2 court cases, but on the other hand its all my money! mmmm will sit and think whilst waiting for postie!!!!

    Hi refund,

I'm sorry that they have not delivered for you. I really can't explain it. Maybe you should revert to a DPA letter, quote your case number (on your complaint letter) and say that the 40 days started with when that case number was raised.

    Only an idea.

I think I know what will happen if I call them and ask for more. They will pull the offer and say "let battle commence" - which is what I had mentally prepared for anyway (if the offer was £1000)

    Thanks for your best wishes.
    All the best to you.

    Hi Refund!

Wow! Things are moving rather quickly. I'm glad that you are on the same page as me now. In your case you got the offer before you had even seen the list of charges!

I am still thinking about pros and cons...I do have 8 weeks to decide, so a couple of days won't hurt.

    Cheers
