  • I don't know what I want.

not a clue. I assumed I 'd be married with kids by now. It was a surprise to find that hasn't happened. I have got out of debt but actually it hasnt made as much difference as I thought it would.

I am massively unhappy quite a lot of the time and keep telling myself to get my !!!! together. I try stuff, I go out, I have loads of friends and in that respect am lucky. But somehow nothing is working at the moment.

Sorry Hypno, looks like I should have stuck to my own diary!

    I came home :o

Hi Buffy - I know exactly what you mean! I don't think it is anything unusual judging by the comments I have had on here over the last couple of weeks.

    We'll get there though!

Ah Buffy, I am sorry to hear that. Life can be crap cant it. I think that lots of people are unhappy on different levels, they just cover it up well (even from themselves). It is when you acknowledge it that you are ready to change.

Hypno, at least you went and knew when you had had enough.

So sorry to hear things are a bit tough - reminding yourself of the simple things in life is one way to help keep you grounded. It's often hard to acknowedge that things aren't okay because you desparately want them to be - I hope that the 'settled' feeling comes back to you soon.

    Hope you enjoy drinks tonight.

Yep, that's my philosphy too. Just plod on with grim determination. Usually very grim.

For example, yesterday I went to Tintagel Castle. I went once before prior to when I fell ill. I basically waltzed up and then back down then - out of breath, but no worse than that. Yesterday I had to rest twice on the steps up to the gate, once just past the gate, once more on the way up to hill past the gate and once more on the very top. I also had to rest twice on the climb back up the hill to the village. It brought home just how fooked I really am.

But I have the philosphy of "I am what am I." AKA the Popeye philosophy... I can see how many people who are forever looking to either the future and wondering why it isn't here RIGHT NOW, and people who hanker after an unobtainable past end up very depressed. Yes, things can be better, they can also be a lot worse. And it also could be raining as well. Even if it is raining, it could be really pissing it down...

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best and expect the unexpected.

And on the the bright side - I got my postcards done during all these rests. Though I would pay real money for a foot and calf massage right now...

I think that's probably the main cause of depression right there. It's said that rather than looking up and seeing what we don't have it's better to look below and be thankful for what we do have.
I for one find it difficult to live in the here and now (though I do count my blessings) because striving towards a goal gives me purpose.

Buffy, you always remind me of my sister. When she was 35 she'd been in 2 long term relationships - both of whom she thought she'd marry and didn't. She was quite depressed for a long time and then decided that for her 36th birthday she was going to throw a big party, invite everyone she knew - including people she only said hello to in her building - and declared this was the year she was going to meet her husband. She did and they got married 2 years later.

I do think there's something in the Cosmic Ordering approach of wanting something and focusing positively on it until it happens (see The Secret et al). So long as you know what it is you want....

Hypno, I know that's kind of your problem. I do think that you somehow need this downtime to re-boot - as frustrating as it is. But it will pass and your mind will clear so you can see the road ahead.
Everything you're doing now is right, so just go with it and be gentle with yourself in the meantime.
Of COURSE you're not going to get stuck, that's not who you are :)
