What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

I feel great today, since my 'awakening' about the drink I've been thinking about other aspects of my life too and feel that I'm on a journey to a really good place. I'm making some other changes too, all of which are for the better.
    Happy Sunday everyone :0)

AnnieG what you said just here sums up exactly how I feel. Sunday was AF for me too - forget to check in last night - so 4 out of a possible 4 in September for me so far.

This anthology of writing about women and drink looks rather interesting: Make Mine a Double: Why Women Like Us Like To Drink (or Not)

  • Hi Everyone

Nice to see a few new names have appeared. And some very impressive totals posted for August :j

Legsand - Massive well done for resisting when you went to the concert :D

MrR was on holiday last week which is why I was AWOL. Nothing new to report. Another couple of conversations about the chemicals that he's putting in to his body and the effect that has on his digestive system. If I had a £ for every time he said "I'm gonna knock the drinking on the head" then I wouldn't need to log on to MSE!! :wall:

    Have a good week everyone

Hi everyone i'm back again, not been in a great place as usual. Just wanted to check in for some inspiration again and some advice on what you would do in my situation.

I have been overindulging regularly for a long time and lately i have noticed pains in my stomach and where my hiatus hernia is, i think my heart and my liver too. Obviously this would make sense and correlate to the alcohol, but i'm scared. I know i ought to go to the doc and admit how much i've been drinking, but i don't want it on my records for the future or take my kids from me. I know they can do blood tests etc but to get one i need to explain why. I'm really scared what to do. I feel ashamed and embarrassed about it all.

No one suspects anything as i'm careful and come across as a social drinker. Even now i'm craving a drink but i'm trying hard not to today to at least give my body a chance to recover.

I feel down, scared and helpless. Im going to get out of the house in a mo to try and distract my feelings of failure to my family and to resist the craving. There is alcholism in my family, so would i be cheating to suggest i'm predisposed?

Oh well, i've always found this thread somewhere to come to when i'm not sure where else to turn to or go, thanks for the vent.

Sending you a quick :grouphug: cuppatea as I didn't want to read and run. I do think there are addictive personalities but it's also soooo easy to just get into the habit of daily drinking as a lifestyle. It seems so socially acceptable just as smoking was until a few years ago.

I do understand you not wanting to go to your doctor and, in any event, the way to try and reverse any damage from the drink is to give up for a while or at least drastically cut down. We get the occasional poster who recommends AA or similar but I've found just using this thread helped me break the habit.

You've already thought of getting out in the air to help distract you. If you have children then maybe just not buying any is the answer as once you're in with them for the evening you can't go out to the shops.

    Good luck and keep posting.:)

Thanks Maman, i'm going to try to come back here daily now even if i do slip up, thanks for understanding everything i wrote and for not judging me. I wonder how someone as sensible and normally fully with it, organised and can run a household and family and hold down a part time job can get into this mess. I know its wrong but its like my vice that i lean on in times of stress but now its a habit like you say. I've been into town with the kids and just got back, so i'll be getting their tea soon and tonight i'm going out to see a friend so driving, so that has stopped me drinking today. Otherwise i would have had to cancel my friend if i'd had a drink now. Plus on the nights i work i don't drink either. But still i'd hate to add up what i consume over a week.

What is your story if you dont mind my asking? I remember you from all the times i've come back here. Does MarkMan still lurk around, haven't spoken to him since christmas and new year.

Your post has made me feel better, so thank you.
