Evening everyone. Just checking in to say AF today again, day two for September. Work birthday drinks but I just stuck with water, and made my excuses to leave early as cycling home. Now about to tuck into cheese on toast along with a nice cup of tea - lovely :D.

    2 AFD for September please!
  • Day 2 for me please! And on a Friday night, very unusual :D
  • Hi everyone

While I have lurked on the debt free wannabe, old style thread etc, its become clear in the last couple of months that I am using drink in a way thats not entirely healthy - not getting completely drunk most of the time, but certainly having just those 2 or 3 extra glasses of wine of an evening - and most evenings - and using it to 'de-stress' and forget about things - which is having the opposite effect of adding to my low-mood, verging on depression, as well as being costly, making me irritable and tired, and completely sabotaging my attempts at losing weight.

So along with trying to get support to tackle my debts - not massive, but stuck at a plateau - increasing cc and overdraft, lovely mum and bf helps out (i know i'm lucky), i pay them back, then I build up debt again - I am going to use this very supportive board to try to cut back and deal with my over consumption of booze, particularly vino.

So I will pledge, 5 out of 7 AFD this week and (as I have a particularly stressful week coming up mid-September) 20 AFD for the whole of the rest of the month. Its a start and will see how it goes, day by day.

Thanks for listening to this slight ramble - typed after finishing yet another bottle of wine, completely unnecessarily...
    As of 10 July: Debts:CC1:22.4% - £2900; CC2:0%- £3700; O/D - £1700; 0% 24 month credit purchase - £[STRIKE]1176[/STRIKE] - £0! :) OU loan: £[STRIKE]1305[/STRIKE] - 984.81

:T to those of you AF last night. I don't really know why (years of conditioning maybe??) but it aways seems harder at weekends.

I wish I'd stayed AF last night. I'm feeling decidedly yuk today and it's all my own fault:mad:

Welcome stitchintime, the 'increasing wine consumption to help switch off' is a scenario well known to most of us on here. So you've come to the right place. Good luck with your target! Shaggy will add you to the September list when she calls in next.
  • I haven't posted on this thread before so I hope it's ok to join in. I have been thinking for a really long time that I should give up or drastically reduce my alcohol intake. I have suffered from depression and drinking makes it a million times worse. I get very tearful and low for a couple of days after and really mean to my DH, don't want to leave the house, etc, etc.

Writing this down it seems crazy that I drink at all but I work in a very high pressure environment (work hard play hard culture - what a ridiculous and cheesy phrase!!) and out of work my friends are really into going out and getting plastered. I know that they would all laugh if I said I was stopping drinking. How do you all cope with the reaction of friends?

I think I wold like to join in in September. So if anyone could let me know how to that would be really great!!

I tell myself it's my life and I don't have to people please all the time.
