Hi everyone - hope everyone has had an ok day and that it's not been too bad for a monday.

Ruthnjasper - thank you for asking, I am ok. I meant to log in a bit earlier to enquire after you but you beat me to it!

Today's not been too bad - didn't make a workout as didn't sleep very well last night - had very vivid dreams!

I did work hard today even though I didn't get done what I had aimed to do as something more urgent came up but I did stay focused.

Was hard tonight not to have a glass of wine - there's a lovely bottle of red in the cupboard but am going to make a coffee in a moment to try to disuade myself!

1 tip which I was doing well with until a spectacular fall from the wagon - waitrose (not very mse I know) have a lovely cordial by 5 valleys called rose and pomegranate - v.tasty and I found (at least for a while) that did distract me from booze.

Emailed a friend today and told her about all that had happened and how bad I felt -she very sweetly told me not to be so harsh on myself and said I was single and entitled to have a good time. She said it's probably not the drink which puts guys off but the fact that they only see me in the pub when I'm having fun and don't realise (in her words) how lovely and what good company I am when out of the pub aswell. Am meeting her for lunch tomorrow - she made me feel tons better and have also decided to cut 'toxic' people out of my life. Did well at avoiding one of them at work today.

Bit gutted though as the guy I like who I pulled in a drunken stupor last week has not contacted me despite him being able to get into contact if he wanted to - he's really nice.

Keep going everyone and good luck with the rest of the evening and the rest of the week.

    xx:)

    Agree 100%.
Anyone who wants me to drink, saying I was 'more fun' etc doesn't want the best for me so I need to keep a distance from them.
I also cannot stand people who see the negative in everyone/everything.

If I surround myself with healthy people who love themselves and love me, then that rubs off on me.

Wow, loads of good scores being put up today - well done everyone!

I was going to take the easy route and not tell you all but honesty is important in our relationship! Worked v late and then back to London starving and tired. Sprint out for takeaway about 10pm and decide to join OH in some wine. OH probably two bottles ahead of me! I agonise. I debate, both in my head and out loud with OH. Eventually (well a couple of minutes later) I think s*d it and I take a gulp It was disgusting. I admit it, I drank some, about a teaspoon or so - so there goes a chance to put in another SNC.

Still at least that's all I had tonight, I looked longingly at the spirits on the bookcase and saw sense and told myself not to be so stoopid!

Still on 3 SNC and 3/13 - what a waste.

Love that Miss-Piggy-Mobile although I think it needs a feather boa!

Well done Mackeroo and FPT and Good Luck Jo.

As RA says "Alcohol is cunning, baffling, powerful"
It's an incredibly powerful addiction, so even when my better judgement was screaming at me not to drink, I still had a drink.
I just couldn't leave it alone (even though I could do days or weeks without having a drink, I'd eventually have one)
It really helped me admitting I was powerless over alcohol.

WBF, I really don't think you can count that as a drinking day. In fact what you did is far more commendable than not drinking at all in my book, it was very easy for you to continue in s*d it mode but you were stronger than that, well done!

Didn't do too well on my first day, but I have decided this evening I will be cutting my intake down and tomorrow in preparation for an AFD on sunday (first one for about 8 months )

Have a great holiday Miss P :) are you about on Bank Hol weekend, could you and OH get down to London, a special birdy visitor is coming down ;)

    Happy Friday everyone :D

Good luck. I am an all or nothing person when it concerns alcohol.
The reason I cannot drink ANY alcohol safely is because I cannot cut down

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

    Morning all

Have to catch up with posts later, no time now.

I will be 6 days alcohol free if i can stay dry today.

Re targets, can i set a total of 28 AFDs that will be for the whole of August?

Is that ok, even though i didn't join at the start of the month?

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

That's fine. You'll be on the list!

  • Hi everyone. Can I join in please? To tell the truth, I joined about two years ago when I had a lot of rubbish going on in my life. You know the kind of thing, where you have a bottle of wine a night to make things better. Except it sooooo doesn't. This thread and everyone on it were amazing and I really started to sort myself out.

So now, here I am two years later and life is much better. Except my drinking is creeping up again. My lovely boyfriend and I enjoy a nice glass of wine with dinner, but he knows when to stop. I don't. The other night we ended up having a massive argument. About what, I'm not really quite sure. I spent yesterday hungover and really regretting how I'd nearly screwed everything up. (Of course, it's not the first time I've done this with him.) I ate carp all day to try to relieve the hangover and then had to work last night and I was completely knackered.

I just don't seem to know when to stop and it's really affecting my relationship and life in general. I forget half of the evening and I'm finding that I seem to be fancying a drink earlier and earlier. I can't seem to relax or socialise without a drink.

I'd like to start trying for a baby soon so I really think it's something I need to get under control.

I remembered this thread so I'm very pleased to have found it again. Of course, I can't read all the posts so I've just started reading from the end of July. Already various stories have touched me and there is so much inspiration. I'll look forward to getting back into the AF way. Or at least cutting down! Thank you.
