PLEASE PUT YOUR TARGET AFDs IN A BOLD RED FONT and good luck! What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
Hello everyone!
17 days AF please lovely Shaggy!
Thank you all for your well wishes!
I won't keep you in suspense, I went to the interview yesterday and got a call offering me the job last night!!!! :j I'm still pinching myself! Just can't believe it. Going to hand my notice in on Friday.
It's a leap and going to be scary to leave my current job (even tho I'm being made redundant in September) and a drop in pay which I expected and plenty of opportunity to progress through the scale but this is MSE and we can manage anything. I mentioned the redundancy but it wouldnt be much money compared to a long term salary and security! think I need to read my Susan Jeffers book to calm my nerves!
I hope you're all ok and managing in the windy weather! Today looks like a good day for drying the washing (sky's blue)!
Take care everyone and remember that we can achieve anything!

Good Morning
Lala - massive congratulations on getting the job...fantastic news!!
darwins_mum - sorry to hear your feeling a bit flat at the moment. I did a fair amount of soul searching at the weekend and know without a shadow of a doubt that most of my drinking stems from a need to 'blot out' the bits I don't want to deal with.I hope you start feeling more positive soon and that your sleep patterns improve too (lack of sleep makes me so much worse!!)
Feeling pleased that I managed to be AF last night so that's 11 AFD's for May please Shaggy and 1 for the SNC please Bearacus.

Thanks for your kind words May2013. I need a big injection of motivation at the moment. I feel as though I am schlepping through life, all of the plans that I made need a bit of a push to make them come to fruition and I don't seem to have the energy. Perhaps if I put as much energy into moving forward instead of looking backward, some progress would be made?! Any thoughts welcome.
Living sober is harder than I thought, but the alternative is unthinkable. Note to self, "be a bit kinder to myself"
Lala, congratulations on your new job. You must be on top of the world right now.
Another late start at work today equals another late finish this evening. One of my plans was to start an hour earlier and ensure that I can finish earlier and enjoy early evenings pottering in the garden. Hm, the garden is in need of napalm to get it under control and I never seem to finish work much before 7 these days.
I think fundamentally I hate coming home to an empty house - which is the case at least 3 days a week. This was always my witching hour, the bells would start clanging at 6, after uncountable units of alcohol, oblivion would ensue at 10 and then it would be bed time.
Enough melancholy, time to get to living.

I totally get how you’re feeling darwins-mum, these words could be mine!! In the last month or two I’ve felt like I’ve been wading through treacle with no motivation what so ever, everything seems to take so much effort just for things to stay the same!! I guess that’s how I found myself on this thread, my usual release to this would be to drink even heavier at these times just to numb the seemingly never ending monotony of it all…thankfully I‘ve woken up to the fact that drinking is probably making it worse!!
Setting myself challenges is the way that I’m getting through this…I write out a realistic daily to do list which includes lots of silly little things (so that I feel like I have achieved lots) and a couple of ‘humdingers’ (those really important tasks (normally work related) that carry with them a degree of consequence if they’re not done). The forums on here are helping too…I read loads getting so many tips and drawing so much inspiration from everyone.
I don’t know what your challenges are in RL but can see that you’re doing incredibly well with you AFness (especially if you're coming into an empty house in the evening, that would be a real trigger for me!)… I for one hope to achieve that too and draw so much inspiration from you and others who have taken this demon by the horns.
Like you say you need to be MUCH kinder to yourself, life is a marathon not a sprint, the upward climbs can be hard (and long) but you will get to the top..and then hopefully have a little downward run for light relief!
I doubt today will be perfect but I hope it’s a little bit better than yesterday and that Wednesday is better still.

Welcome baileydog99
Shaggy and bearacus update the challenge lists, but to give you a steer we tend to set ourselves a target of AF days for the month...you can set yourself up to 8 AFD's for the remaining days in May or choose to go target free - shaggy keeps this list up to date!
Bearacus runs the weekly SNC - 'School Night Challenge' (Mon-Thurs) just let her know how many you want to pledge for this week.

Thanks for you're congrats folks!
Darwins Mum - sorry you're feeling down at the moment. May's suggestion of finding little things to do sounds like a good idea. Do I recall you mentioning sewing as a hobby? Have you ever tried making sock monkeys? I have a go now and then when I'm at a loose end, they are cheap to make and loads of fun. I also bob into Dunelm now and then and pick up scrap materials from the bargain bucket (cheap and cheerful) and make little things to keep me busy and give me a sense of achievement! Ooh, its been a while since I've done it....! You'll start to feel better soon I'm sure - keep you're chin up, be kind to yourself and be proud of your achievements.
