I doubt that the people who write, produce and present the programme are such delicate flowers they lie awake agonising about a few comments suggesting not all the ideas are workable.

Apart from some comments about people being made to look eccentric or foolish which devalues the whole idea of saving money as something sensible ordinary people can do - I have not noticed the spite and venom referred to. I have seen discussions on telly programmes on DT that were extremely direct and very scathing and don't feel that the comments on here were in that vein at all.

I do take the original point lally made which was defending her friend and agree we should not be judging people on how they look and making unkind comments. But I do feel that when presenters are wobbling around on a bike and wearing orange hats as a trademark it feels patronising and manipulative.

I wish they would bring back "Make do and mend" as that came over much better with its ideas.

  • Okay Mrs M does look daft. I flick through her section as she gets on my nerves. So there you go a confession from me. We should all do you tube videos and send them to channel 4. you never know. Someone in TV land might really like them. And I am sorry for being defensive, but when you have worked with vunerable children and you do your best to protect them, you seem to want to protect everyone from the evil out there. And the comment was about my hair lol. But I am used to it as I dont look like a typical smallholder with kids, more like well I dont know to be honest.
Has anyone seen my last marble:A:A:A:A

I love this thread - I don't think it is too mean, just funny.

I wish I could buy decent stuff at our local charity shops, but it seems to be mainly old lady clothes. On the odd occasion I've seen jeans they have been for people with much shorter legs than me :(

Justamum, I have to confess to donating jeans that have been taken up (I am extremely short) - it must really mess with the minds of those buying them, lol!

I find the Astonish oven cleaner (white paste) applied on a damp cloth does a good job on oven doors.

Best of all is that it removes the marks left after cleaning my white double sink - no matter what I did black marks used to appear out of no where.

I Just remembered that one of the students balked at the CS clothes because they were 'used'.
    LOL
I said to OH , everything she owns is 'used' the minute she removes it from the shop ,however much it cost her.
Maybe we should call them vintage wardrobe garments instead. After all if you think about where many younger people get their fashion ideas, it is the TV and films and a lot of the clothing worn by actors is reused hundreds of times with the wardrobe mistress maintaining them between uses.
I do wonder at the need to buy a complete outfit especially for 'going out' when there is no actual special event. I can see you might have a new get up for something like a wedding or an award ceremony or a very special party(prom etc) but then you would keep that outfit for best or possibly even sell it if it is very 'special'.

Well, it is "trendy" to wear used these days - I saw on the news this morning that *even* Kate Middleton is doing it lol.

I have noticed through this thread rather personal comments about the physical appearances of those appearing in the show.

To ridicule the quality of the tips and comments is one thing.

To ridicule others because of their appearance is completely different.

Whilst I agree with the comments about shaving heads at home would seriously save some money, as would learning to wash and care for any weaves at home, even doing each others. I really fail to see the need to ridicule their choice of style, even Mr 'Hairband' from last week.

    Just saying.
my point with him was his spending on branded high price goods which for him seemed all about appearances - in the stores. to other shoppers, to family friends etc, dinner party guests when from the looks of him his hair was greasy and coud have used some branded shampoo. His hair looked as if he hadnt washed it for weeks. maybe he was trying to cut shampoo and water costs.
