I wasted an hour of my life trying to clean my glass oven door with a bicarb paste. De Nada. What DID get it off was cheap cream cleaner. Odd, really, since you'd have thought they were essentially the same abrasiveness.....hey ho....I now have an actual clear square at the front of my oven!! I could, like, SEE dinner cooking. Can't remember the last time that hapened.....
note to self: clean it more often, you skanky 'ho....Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Pfft I goggled to get to this thread, although I read others, and my search was "superscrimpers oven cleaner" and you lot should be ashamed of yourselves. Yes you're already frugal, but there are people out there like me that aren't and want to learn. I've taken away quite a lot of tips from that programme which I didn't know before. I've wiped lavender oil on my radiators and I'm using lemon juice and bicarb more. If someone that's never thought of these things before, and doesn't know MSE came along and read this thread I very much doubt they'd stick around.
It might not be the best frugal programme in the world, but at least it's trying to show people they can change their ways. Surely encouraging comments would be better than moaning about the programme? Some comments are harsh, yes especially when they get personal - that i can agree with, there is no need to mock somebody's image.
But i dont think we should be ashamed of ourselves. I dont see what the problem is:
we have said 6 tomatoes costs more than a bottle of ketchup - thats giving others help especially when people have gone on to say it may be worthwhile if you have excess grown tomatoes but have said where you can buy it cheaper and for how much.
2 of us spent an hour today using the tip about bicarb to clean the oven and it didnt work (and cost me more in bicarb than it would have done oven cleaner) so if that saves someone else the time, effort and money i dont see the problem with that either.
we found it gros when the woman put a friendship bracelet in her mouth so we advised to use a safety pin on a cushion or put it between to drawers.
Ok so we might be a bit forth coming with our opinions, but it is an open forum and i think generally people with more experience are giving more helpful tips on the subjects involved within the program.0 -
Oh i think orange hat is fair target :-) i think the programme's brill cos i read all your comments and they make me laugh :-) i have also learnt things such as brown vinegar is as good as white for dleaning my dishwasher (comment on here after white vinegar on SS). So my only suggestion is the programme be renamed scrimpers and this thread be supercrimpers :-)MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

We should be ashamed? For expressing an opinion?Yes you're already frugal, but there are people out there like me that aren't and want to learn. I've taken away quite a lot of tips from that show which I didn't know before.
I think you'll find there's much better info contained in this Old Style board than found in the show and none of the posters on here are paid to research and broadcast their hints, tips and suggestions - they do so out of kindness and a sense of community.
Yes, we are probably a bit more frugal than the average viewer but that just means that we can look critically at what is being said, evaluate the advice, discuss it and warn others if it's not 100% right.
I think a lot of us are disappointed in the tone and content of the programme. There's definitely a market for a show that focuses on money saving but isn't patronising.
Oh, BTW, saw your post on another thread about us OSers. I wouldn't try the bicarb method for cleaning the cooker - as mentioned many times above, it doesn't work but well, that's probably just us moaning.MFW 2019 #61: £13,936.60/£20,0000 -
The best way of cleaning an oven door imo is with one of those metal ribbon cleaners (i paid 99p for 4 from lidl). With a little squirt of washing up liquid they are amazing. A thousand thanks to whoever put me onto that OS tipMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Bicarbonate on a stainless steel hob does work though. I sprinkle it, leave it then add a little water to make a thick paste and scrub it. I use diluted bleach in a spray bottle after to kill any remaining bugs.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

Only read to page 23 so sorry if I'm repeating - but I got a 5l tub of white vinegar "non brewed condiment" from Rosspa for £1.99"She who asks is a fool once. She who never asks is a fool forever"

You will get far better frugal advice from this forum, which is why the programme is getting criticised so much on here as the tips are mostly a bit rubbish to be honest.0
