I don't know if orange hats are included in criticising appearance?

I just think it sort of downgrades frugalism and pokes fun. Honestly, if any of us were going to meet people to give a talk on mse would you seriously wear a big orange hat???

I don't really mind the jam and ketchup tips, they would be fine for people who grow their own and are handy to know about if you are trying to eke out the pennies coming up to pay day.
You can get boxes of bicarb and bags of soda crystals in wilko in amongst their cleaning stuff.
I use the bicarb for hair washing and we add it to our toothpaste by dabbing the paste laden brush in a little tub of it(you dont get such a drastic bicarb flavour but it does still do a good whitening job).
It seems a little more gritty than the tubs sold for baking but the ingredients are apparently the same.
The fashion girls were quite typical of young women I have met since DD became a student.
One of her friends comes from a very privileged home and has passed on designer items to DD when she has been going to throw them out and DD has protested.
Young people sometimes seem to think that their lifestyle as a singleton should equal their parents as far as money is concerned and have no idea that their own parents did not have that sort of income from the start.
OH said where did they get 20'000 to spend on fashion and I said it was virtual money(credit cards) most likely.
When people become students ,they are inundated with offers of credit cards and accounts with overdraft facilities(vulture style as the student wont be earning big money straight away if ever).
Oh well it is entertaining anyway.

I preferred the other series they had on a few years back..
Was it called scrimpers? It was just clips of people who had good saving ideas . I think the narrator was Bernard Cornwell.

It contains acetylsalicylic acid which is anti-inflammatory so it's great for reducing redness and spots and also it makes for a wonderful exfoliant.

Ahhhh ok that makes sense :) I'm allergic to salicylic acid so for me she was sticking poison in it ;)

Looking around trying to find where i could buy reasonably priced white vinegar 5 litres and bicarb 3 kg, i came across the following online store,

    http://www.tradewindsorientalshop.co.uk/

Postage is £4.99, with a 1-2 day delivery time, and they accept payment by paypal, i have placed a small order for now, and if i'm happy with the products and service i will place a larger order in the future.

    Has anyone used them before?

I'm just watching it on catch-up (like Ilona, no TV for me!).

The overspenders they have on all seem have really poor attitudes to moneysaving (FreshMan from last week and now these girls) and I wonder if they are told to put it on a bit for the program.

I know this is completely off topic but I find it sad that two lovely looking, young women have to plaster themselves with make-up to feel good.

I'd forgotten the jam man. He was using up strawberries which were way past their best, and I'm sure you shouldn't use blemished fruit as the jam goes mouldy very quickly. Mind you I suppose if he was only making one jar and eating it straight away it wouldn't matter.

Hmm, a lot of the Scrimping Army tips are duplicates. That anti-moth pouch was exactly the same as the heart shaped on done a few weeks ago and lubricating a saw with a candle? We saw the mechanic do they same with the car windows.

I agree - Spendaholics was much better, I wish they'd bring it back :(

I think that by giving some of the sillier tips, it's not exactly encouraging people to take up a more frugal life.

    It's not uncommon!

Papain is one of the active ingredients in Origins Never a Dull Moment scrub. It's amazing and literally eats all the dead skin - it's a bit like loads of little pacmen on your skin. It's found in papayas and might be something you could look into if you fancied a brightening HM mask rather than aspirin?

But, tbh I'd prefer to just buy a tub of NADM because by the time you buy the papayas and mush them up, I doubt it's MUCH cheaper. Though I suppose it's cheaper in the way that you could spend £1 per go on a papaya rather than £18 in one go for a scrub.

NADM is my favourite scrub but for some reason I feel compelled to keep trying stuff!? So, I bought some lush products the other day - a cleanser, mask and moisturiser. I was assured that the mask and moisturiser would give me a six month supply. The mask had gone completely mouldy by the second time I went to use it. It cost me more than £25 for the lot so I wasn't impressed :(

Has anyone here actually learnt anything new from the programme?
i have to say, the previous weeks programme , where they used a 2 l pop bottle (with the neck cut off ) to unblock the loo- genius :T i used that tip this week and it worked a treat :D

I think the only thing I can say I learnt form this series was using a metal kebab skewer to do jacket potatoes in the oven! Never thought of that before for some reason!

I chuckled my way through last nights episode, especially about the tomato sauce. Now I grow a LOT of tomatoes to make my own pasta sauce and jar it, but that was a waste! I buy value ketchup for 30p, it lasts ages in the fridge and I dont have to defrost it first!:rotfl:

Oh, if only we could make our own show! The UK would have a bit of a shock!:p

Can you imagine what the nation would be saying about us MSE'ers if we made our own show!!! LOL :rotfl:

I was shot down and attacked on another forum who told me i had OCD because i was considering setting myself a challenge of living on £1 a day not including utilities! The general consensus is *STILL* that we must be mad - there are just a few more of us around these days! :T

Well a vote for the programme from me!

I must agree that perhaps this kind of show is not really for us die-hard frugallers but I find its nice to come across things that I know I should do but havnt done for a while. Its entertaining and I have noticed in the office people who cant even spell the word frugal are wanting to try some of the tips so it must be getting the message across.

Also I must admit I watch it cos it makes me feel very smug when you see these people spending vast amounts of money when they simply didnt have to and found much cheaper alternatives.

Its never going to please everyone but it covers a broad spectrum and even if you only come away with 1 good tip its worth watching.

Perhaps they could branch off with shows just devoted to either cookery or crafts?

I like it for that reason too - its not very often i take pleasure out of being smug :rotfl:

Oh and someone said about the mechanic - i have to admit i dont know anything about cars and leave it all up to my husband so the tips i do get from the mechanic are about the only thing i find helpful BUT every snippet of help.... helps.
