and the bag still had a crotch!!!
LOL. I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice that!
I think the fashion tips are pretty awful. Also, friendship bracelets are all the rage now? They were all the rage when I was growing up in the 80s! It's a bit childish to give an adult a friendship bracelet IMO.
My friends and I have our own little superscrimping gang. My top 10 tips are:
1) ask around before you buy something (there's always someone, somewhere looking to get rid of the thing you want)
2) don't buy anything on a whim and try not to go shopping when bored
3) cook from scratch (unless you can buy it cheaper and of an acceptable quality ready-made)
4) replace the phrase "let's go for coffee" with "let's go for a walk" or "come over to mine"
5) talk to your friends and family about stopping present giving on special occasions and instead, all contribute to a celebration (have a cake day for a friends birthday, ask Christmas guests to each bring something for the meal etc)
6) see if you can cut down on one thing during the month (alcohol, Starbucks, cigarettes, lunches out) and see how much this saves
7) use Skype to chat to friends and family instead of phoning them (especially if you are calling someone who lives abroad)
8) sign up to a survey site and save the resultant vouchers/money for special treats
9) learn to be haggle and don't be embarrassed to ask for a discount (this works with everyone from travel agents to utilities companies)
10) beware of false economies - make sure you balance quality with price.
There. Now when do I get my own TV show? I think I'd like a purple hatMFW 2019 #61: £13,936.60/£20,0000 -

The general consensus is *STILL* that we must be mad - there are just a few more of us around these days! :T
I take HM sandwiches into uni every day and bring my own cans - you wouldn't think this was extreme money saving but it still gets remarked on by my peers ALL THE TIME.
I think you have to strike a balance between being good with money and becoming completely obsessed. If someone is in a position to enjoy life and they don't because they begrudge the cost (however small), then I would say that was going too far.
Look at Ilona, for example: she lives very frugally but still enjoys jaunts all over the UK. On the other hand, my MIL is minted yet begrudges spending a few pounds on something she really needs or wants (then moans about not having it, usually to me).MFW 2019 #61: £13,936.60/£20,0000 -
I must confess to doing painting in "good" clothes! Because I haven't got time to change and I've only got time to do a bit and I'm going to be REALLY careful this time. Holds out hand for ruler.
Sainsburys used to sell bicarb in big tubs near the Shake and Vac (maybe it's the same thing with added smellies?) but I haven't seen it for ages. Must look in Wilcos.'Yaze whit yeh hive an ye'll niver wahnt'

I get bicarb from the chinese supermarket too. Every few months when we go into Manchester we walk back to the car via China Town and stock up on bicarb, tins of coconut milk, green tea and anything else that seems cheaper.0

Hmm, a lot of the Scrimping Army tips are duplicates. That anti-moth pouch was exactly the same as the heart shaped on done a few weeks ago and lubricating a saw with a candle? We saw the mechanic do they same with the car windows.
I agree - Spendaholics was much better, I wish they'd bring it back
"Spendaholics" is being shown on Really (Freeview 20). I record it so that I can fast forward through the bits I don't want to watch again. There have been a few episodes I didn't recognise from the original showing.
Does anyone remember that other money saving programme that was shown last year? It had three presenters and there were always tips on frugal cooking, DIY and craft / textiles. It was on everyday for a week. I remember weeks from Wales (Barry?) and Bristol. It was much better than Superscrimpers.
I've just found out the answer to my own question!!:)
It was called "Make Do and Mend!" It was also made by Channel 4.0 -

Unless it's on iPlayer, I can't watch it (no TV).
I was hoping it would come back for a new series, especially since Superscrimpers has been commissioned for a 2nd series (undeserving as it is!).MFW 2019 #61: £13,936.60/£20,0000 -

Hope is not a strategy...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

me either, id like to know where to buy big bottles
Not sure if you are allowed to mention shops, but SummerNaturals is a good site for this kind of stuff.0 -
I wasted an hour of my life trying to clean my glass oven door with a bicarb paste. De Nada. What DID get it off was cheap cream cleaner. Odd, really, since you'd have thought they were essentially the same abrasiveness.....hey ho....I now have an actual clear square at the front of my oven!! I could, like, SEE dinner cooking. Can't remember the last time that hapened.....
note to self: clean it more often, you skanky 'ho....0 -
