  • this programme really is a load of rubbish.
How to make a lemon last a couple of weeks ? that was helpful, must have saved us at least 20p,
And freeze your spuds, why not freeze all your spare veg and look for reduced food and freeze that.
Shan't bother wasting the electric to watch that again :)

things like lambs liver, kidneys etc have always been a cheap meal. i am 64 and we have always had meals like this at least once a week. can someone tell me whats new about that??? suddenly people are on tv telling the world about these wonderful money saving dinners when the rest of us have been cooking/eating them for a lifetime!!!

lambs liver in iceland: fresh, not frozen, is the best i have found so far, is £1 a packet and its enough for 2 dinners for me.

wonderful meal. a lot of all this cheap meals stuff is stemming from the fact that kids arent taught to cook any more!!! get cookery lessons back on the curriculum, show them how to cook good, nourishing meals for cheaper than they could every have thought of.
last week i bought a pack of reduced minced pork in iceland, for 50p. put it in the slow cooker with lots of veg and it did 3 meals in various guises.....some with pasta. some with garlic bread (made by me of course, not bought) and the little bit that was left was put on a jacket spud.

for heavens sake TV people, get people on your programmes who have REALLY been super scrimpers and fed a family on pennies.

I enjoy the 'tips' from the real people although there's nothing really that I didn't already know or do.

Don't like 'Mrs Money Penny' though! Very annoying woman.

totally agree. Liver and kidneys are eaten regularly and always have been. I think that people just don't know how to cook these days which is a real shame.

I wasn't surprised by any of the cuts they used as I use them all the time, I had a whole oxtail not so long ago from the butcher, i think it was 4 quid.
I was surprised by what some of the people were paying for tv, like £75 a month. I pay £26.50 just now and I'm looking for a freesat box at the minute so I can get rid of the monthly bills.
I didn't fancy the house swap, my it would take me months to get mine up to a presentable standard, I'd need a holiday after that.

I got the humax foxsat box and got rid of sky and it's brilliant. And not having to pay a monthly fee(on top of the licence fee) is a real boon!

We watched superscrimpers last night recorded and my OH said exactly the same as you, it would take so long to knock our house into shape to exchange it wouldn't be worth it!

    All the best,

some with garlic bread (made by me of course, not bought)

I read this and just had to share. My BIL and SIL came over for dinner a while ago and I made some lasagne and garlic bread (both from scratch).

Anyway, they were astounded that we made the garlic bread (it was BM Ciabatta cut thickly, toasted and spread with an olive oil spread that had some minced garlic in it) and when I told them how simple it was, they quickly said, "Oh, that's too much bother, I just buy the frozen ones and put them in the oven."

The fact is there people who will actually do that.

I was once given an old washing machine by someone. It only had a small leak in the bottom. Only needed a new rubber pipe bought for a few pound in a local shop.

My handle came off my non-stick omelette pan a week or so ago and I took it and the handle to my local ironmongers shop where a very nice man not only found a slightly longer screw to fix it back onto the pan for me but actually did it and tightened it up for me Cost me 50p instead of a tenner for a new pan.B&Q eat your heart out I know I wouldn't get that sort of service from a big company but the goodwill he created means that I shall praise him and his shop to all my friends and relations and use it again if I need something else
Just watched Mondays edition on Catch-up t.v. I can't believe how much people spend on their t.v. package When do they find the time to watch all the channels,I'm retired and normally watch it on catch-up because I am doing something else when its on 'live' IYSWIM
About three years ago I phoned Virgin to say that Sky was doing a better offer and I had £19.50 knocked off my monthly bill as I had been loyal to them (I had been takenover as a customer from Blueyonder and had been with them for about 6 years before that)My average bill for t.v.,broadband,and phone line icluding calls including the XL t.v package which is more than enough for me is just over £42 per month which I think is very good.
Re the holiday swap I wonder how safe it would be to have complete strangers in ones house I don't think I could fancy that I do know a couple that 'housesit ' for an agency and they go all over the country and have even been to the continent. You get paid a nomimal amount and often are there in quite nice houses as someone who could water the plants and just be a 'presence' whilst the owners are away.

The liver and kidneys I have eaten for years I love liver and bacon casserole and my late OH used to poach lambs kidneys in thick gloopy bisto gravy and dish them up on toast for supper sometimes.
Some of the tips were a little absurd.I hardly think one spends 'hundreds of pounds' cleaning their windscreen, and the meths, my late Dad used to clean my Mums windows with along with some screwed up newspaper and it brought them up beautifully.
I thought the gardening tip for the carrots was a good idea for using up left over loo roll holders.
This series is a bit of a mish mash some good bits and some absolute rubbish.I can't believe I have managed to live almost 70 odd years and not had to use lip balm:):)
As for the young chap peeling spud to freeze I thought he would do better to spend 50p on a decent potato peeler instead of all the wasted peel he had:)

I think it was dissapointing this week, I wish they would take an already scrimping family and help them scrimp further - then we'd get some real advice - I could save that woman £5k on holidays - STOP GOING ON HOLIDAY - lol
Im veggie and I bet people would prefer good veggie meals than eat insides - esp. kids

I changed my broadband this week saved £200 a year had £30 cashback and had a £50 voucher - Im sure scrimpers would cancel their sky to swap to btvision or virgin with cashback or cancel their package there are loads of options she didnt mention

It would be nice to see proper experts on there giving advice on things like energy, fuel, proper car maintainance like changing brake pads, diy

I signed up for the tips on C4 website and the first one was start a coin jar - I already had 3 so I unsubscribed
