  • I wasn't surprised by any of the cuts they used as I use them all the time, I had a whole oxtail not so long ago from the butcher, i think it was 4 quid.
I was surprised by what some of the people were paying for tv, like £75 a month. I pay £26.50 just now and I'm looking for a freesat box at the minute so I can get rid of the monthly bills.
I didn't fancy the house swap, my it would take me months to get mine up to a presentable standard, I'd need a holiday after that.

I swear they just make stuff up on this show - since when do chicken breasts to feed a family of 4 cost £8 odd?? Yes of course liver is cheaper but not that much cheaper.

Cleaning your windscreen with meths will save you 'hundreds and hundreds of pounds' Really? Only if you used to clean it with chanel no5!

    A couple of beauty notes...

    1. Glitter varnish is a pain. It will either flake, or if it does - by some miracle - stick, you will practically need napalm to get it off. A good trick on that front is the remover/cotton wool/tin foil trick ;)

    2. Vaseline et al... Just don't. Cocoa/shea butter etc based balms actually moisturise your lips. Vaseline creates a near impenetrable barrier but does not actually moisturise, and lips can become "dependent" on petroleum jelly use, where they need it just for basic protection because you've been giving them that layer.

Good things from this series though - the baked tattie trick with the skewer! Never thought of doing that, really obvious when you think about it!

And I must get to grips with my sewing machine ><
    On the up :D

Please please please if anyone tries the washing liquid in the car lock, thoroughly wash the area of the paintwork where it runs. It will destroy the paint.

Ever seen the pink once red cars? That's down to washing the cars with washing up liquid.

No thats due to the fact that red pigment is more affected by UV light than other colours

That can be another cause, however, washing up liquid eventually breaks down the wax (if used) and destroys the laquer.

Washing up liquid is fine for an annual cleaning for stripping away polish and wax ready for new layering but not continual use.

I know this because I own a couple of classics so am very particular about what they are washed with.

1 of them is Tornado red and has no fading anywhere after 27 years. I've recently bought a 2nd hand door panel from a car the same age and there has been no problem matching it up with faded/mismatched panels
  • I think certain cheaper meats like Shin of Beef and Liver and Kidneys are delicious if cooked right with good tasty ingredients.

Mrs Moneypenny is just one in a whole wad of [rich] people telling us Poor 'uns what to do: HFW and River Cottage, Clemency Burton Hill (seen in Tatler and on The Culture Show), Claudia Winkleman Film 2012 featured in Tatlers Most Invited.. It would be helpful if MSE Folks could recognise the provenance of the various Media Folks speaking to us, further examples: Geordie Grieg ex Editor of Tatler now in charge of Daily Hate, Torygraph people socialise together.

All proof that my stupid extravagant foolish reading of occasional copies of Tatler (and Vogue) is paying me back dividends in terms of knowing who are holding the reins of power and that I believe that us MSE Folks need to google more the REAL ROOTS of these telling US what to do.

People like HFW have a point but I for one refuse to get into the hype.

  • *I am ignoring the Royal Hype by the way ahead of the Diamond Jubilee, their friends the Bankers have been screwing our Public Finances and we are being forced to pay. I don't see why I should support this Royalist Charade that is milking us dry*

Whose to say that wealthy people shouldn't, or wouldn't, shop in charity shops. My daughters paternal grandfather still likes a good mooch around a charity shop; I'm not sure what his salary is but a couple of years ago I found out one of his bonuses was £240k . He regularly complains about food prices etc.; I don't think he's mean...he just grew up with absolutely nothing and just can't shake his MSE way of thinking. I actually admire people like this.

I have no problem with people with money on the show; many wealthy people have only acquired assets through being careful with their money and very good management and organisation. I thought the whole point was that she did have good business acumen and she believed that the same principles can be applied to running a household. They also have many other scrimpers so it's an interesting mix all round.
  • Do we have a wonderful Elite or a !!!!! Elite? I think the latter.
As for the Wealthy I think that it is right that no sector of Society is beyond Criticism I am just sick of seeing the poor demonized and the wealthy being seen as beyond Virtue.
