It strikes me if he was that evil, rather than record it to inciminate himself, wouldn't he just watch them whenever he wants his sick kicks? The supposed inappropriateness probably never occurred to him, being brought up in simpler times
I'm not bad at golf, I just get better value for money when I take more shots!
  • OP, maybe you could knock on his door and politely ask about the reasons for the camera pointing towards the play area? As others suggested it could be to prevent vandalism and it might also put your mind at ease?

Blimey. Well, it could be for security's sake, sounds like he has had trouble in the past, or maybe it is to see who is ccoming to the door before answering? Most small cameras on cctv style systems are fitted with extremely wide lenses, this means they are not really looking where they are pointing, but instead in every direction for a few feet - anything more distant is tiny and near-invisible. You have very little idea what the camera is picking up, and no idea how it is being used. Perhaps the chap is less mobile now, and needs to be sure who his visitors are before walking downstairs? Perhaps the old boy had been robbed in his home and is scared? You don't know, he may be more deserving of your care and sympathies than just screaming "p a e d o!!" as a knee-jerk reaction.

Im sure its mentioned somewhere, the camera is in his back window not facing his front door, there is no back door. Its in his living room window and even if its covering all sorts of angels all that is covered is the park and football pitch not once inch of his propert as he has no back garden, fence etc

Mayby he was simply doing something in doors (making an adult movie / taking some pictures for ebay sales etc). Went to hoover the room and moved the camera to the window while he did that area of the floor ? Suddenly had a call from his mate for a quick pint down the pub and didnt move the camera back to its original position or pack it away .

Op was merely hoping for advice on wether it was allowed and where to turn for advice. the fact the park is opposite the school makes it more concering for me. Ive since been informed he has cctv facing the main road so not only he recording children playing but coming in and out of school.

After school today we went to out local park (opposite school so very popular) anyway while on the swings we noticed the house on the edge of the park had what looked like a stephoscope aiming from its window straight into the park - on closer inspection we discovered it was a video camera  (from window to play area is 2-3meters)

Sorry, I know this is really immature in a serious thread, but this did make me smile ... a stephoscope is a devise that doctors put in their ears to listen to things like heart-beats or breath sounds. I think you mean telescope - but please don't be offended by me pointing this out - it did make me genuinely smile (NHS humour and all that).

I think if you have any concerns whatsoever, even teensy ones, you would be remiss not to contact the police. They can then check it out, and if it's harmless, then no harm done and next time you see the gent at the window at least you'll have the reassurance of knowing there's nothing sinister going on

Good luck in getting it sorted.
