My Redundancy Diary

I do volunteer work once working in my current job - but go to your volunteer centre who can advise you on all the opportunities available as you can pick and choose what to do. Remember also if you dont like your volunteering experience you are not committed to stay but can pick and choose.
I'm moving into the paid work of charities so any charity would welcome volunteers with open arms0 -
I've not been on this thread for a while now - too busy looking for work! After 3 months' searching, I was offered a job yesterday subject to references and start a week on Monday. It's only until March next year initially and the pay's not that great but I'm happy to have something, and I have other applications on the go so I may yet get something better
I volunteer in my local Cancer Research shop. I started doing this a couple of months ago, initially on Sundays but then doing a half day during the week as well. I have loved every minute of it - it's completely different to anything I'd done before but highly rewarding. I plan on carrying on with the Sunday shift (albeit probably on reduced hours) after I start working again. You meet all sorts of people, gain new skills, keep yourself busy, and it definitely helps build confidence.
You do have to tell the Jobseekers' people but they view voluntary work favourably. All they really want to know when you'll be volunteering, and have a note of your mobile number in case they need to advise you of a vacancy (big lol at that as that's never happened yet).0 -
well done joyce : xxx hope the new job goes well xx0

Hi all,
One week to go for me till I leave work. 22 years and 11 months I'll have been pushing various bits of paper around!
I'm still applying for jobs although I'm being a bt choosy at the moment but hopeful that I'll get something sorted in the near future.
I've had 4 offers of plastering work in the last week so I may end up getting a van afterall! It's something I enjoy it's just whether it's a bit too much to ask for a near 40 year old to start at - it's a younger man's occupation that's for sure!! However, I'll do the jobs inbetween refitting my own bathroom and pointing the house! I'm still planning on taking the Summer holidays off to do all that plus look after my lad as well.
Blimey these last few days are dragging!!!0 -
Last day tomorrow - phoned up HR today and apparently money will go on in Monday - made sure I have cleared my desk, delete my files on my computer and set up my business
and wrote to everyone to say what I am doing and where
Plan to slip out quietly tomorrow as I have a brief leaving due.

MM have you left now? I still remember the strange mix of feelings as I left for the last time.
How is everyone else getting on. Any Jobseeker tales? I am seeing somebody else at JCP tomorrow so wonder if they will ask any other than the normal questions? Still no H&S jobs down here but am happy to keep plodding along (and lucky to be able to!)Andyboy :idea:0 -
Seems brighter on the other side
started my new part time ceo job with a charity - going very well and home based so that is good. Start a contract for my self employment on Monday for one day and just need to register as self employed this week and sort out my pl insurance. Feel very relaxed about it all.
Was concerned that I would feel very sad at leaving the place but haven't had that - think the fact they mucked me about for six months changed my atittude. Emailed my old manager to say if there was any contract work coming up let me know and he did imply there would be - so may take the money and runlol
All happy days and enjoying every dayjoined a gym to go to during the day and going to find some me time. Hope everyone is going well
xxx
