I have 1 week left and I am so looking forward to finishing next Friday... I didn't think this last few weeks would be so stressful but it has and my body is feeling it!! I have so many exciting plans, I just want to get on with them.

I'm putting half my money in savings, any recommendations on ISA's? I was looking at Santander... also need to find a decent savings account. Not looking forward to the job centre trip, but needs must!

Can anyone recommend any IT training options I should explore. I have nothing official for my CV although did use computer sys at work

You should look at doing the ECDL qualification... I've done this, and now doing the Advanced modules. It's worth having on your CV. :)

    Hi spottiswoode

sorry you are in the club (as it were). Don't give up on trying for new job and yes you should get JSA cont based but will need to declare your 8 hour job.

I asked about this at the Jobcentre last week and I was told that if I found part-time work and worked under 16 hours a week I could continue to sign on for JSA cont-based but my actual salary would be deducted from the £67.

    Good luck anyway.

Well I'm officially unemployed... my last day on Friday was really stressful, but luckily I have had a very relaxing weekend! Just submitted my JSA application online, now to await their phone call. Won't get my redundancy money until 12 August, so can't really do much until then... :)

having fun on the other side have now gone self employed (part time) and secured contracts: 2 days per week x 6 months, 1 day per week x 1 month, 1 day per week x 10 weeks, 2 days and finished a 1 day piece of work..... Interview for another contract 1 day per week x 6 months as well and this i along with a chief executive part time post - so I am more busy than I was when I was in the horrible gloomy public sector - how is everyone else getting on. xxx

That's sounds all great daisyf, I hope to be in a similar situation soon myself. I am having a couple of months to explore ideas and enjoy the time off then I will be working on my business and hopefully earning some money.

I have my appointment at the Jobcentre this Thursday, must get all my paperwork together so it all goes smoothly... :D

    Hello everyone,

I've just read through this whole thread and am surprised to find so many other people already doing what I had intended to do! I finish work next friday o am counting down the days now and am looking forward to catching up on housey jobs, perhaps enjoying ther weather (if it stays nice!), going to the gym every morning and doing some voluntary work.

I'm not as lucky as some of you, in that my package will allow me to take 6 months off work, but I will still need to go back to work and carry on earning/paying into pension/paying off mortgage. Unlike a number of you, I have no idea what I would like to do and feel somewhat stuck in a rut with my career choices and the level of salary I am used to. I feel like I will be forced back into the same job again just to earn the good money I have been used to. I may look at contracting for a while.

I will try and keep up to date with this thread as it has already been useful. Do you have to wait until you are actually out of work before registering for JSA, or could I fill in the forms next week (after all, I am having to sit at my PC to deal with the continual stream of emails that will no doubt continue to arrive until the last minute!)
What goes around comes around.....I hope!

Not had any time off since being made redundant - went straight into a part time job and also freelance work :) which is building up very nicely to the point that I am working weekends as well but i love the freelance work. Going to take that for what I can just incase it all dries up :) xxx But good luck everyone and keep updating us = xxx
