My Redundancy Diary

Well I always say be careful what you wish for. I jokingly said that when I was made redundant I would be a house husband for a while and send the wife back to work.
Last night she was contacted by a friend offering her some part time work but also informing her of a 6 months full time post where she used to work.
I will back her in either but think that the full time post would possibly lead her to better things in time. Meanwhile I will have to brush up on my household skills. i will let you know what happens......now where is that Mrs Beetons how to be a good housewife book? :rotfl:
I also need to complete my CV this week as well as try and apply for a couple of suitable posts.....not much H&S work around at the mo though.Andyboy :idea:0 -
redundancy letter received today, finish in a week or so.. oooerrr
Went to job centre for a look. "100 new local jobs"......
94!! self employed interpreters in languages you have never heard of (assylum seekers stuff I suppose), 1 Avon Rep (self employed), and 4 spurious jobs 50 miles away....0 -
you can get free cvs done with next steps - also give helpful career advice and offer you free training

i am now receiving JSA (cotribution based) despite many people thinking that if you have a redundancy payout you won't get it. :j
i was a doubter, originally, but after reading several MSE posts decided to go for it. Have you applied? Did you get it? Are you a doubter?
Hi Andyboy
I signed on today and it wasn't as bad as I'd imagined.
The lady who interviewed me was very friendly and treated me with respect and even joked about some of the archaic questions on the standard online form, e.g. do I check the newspapers for jobs?
I have to go back on Thursday to sign on officially but, apart from the inconvenience of the time - 2.05pm - I'm not worried.
I have been told that I won't get any JSA while we are away on holiday though (we're going to Portugal) but I can live with that.
On a job-hunting note - yes, it's scary. There is very little to apply for out there at the moment. I think self-employment is the way forward but it's nice to have a Plan B. My partner works part-time and also on a freelance basis but we can't survive on one wage indefinitely. The pressure is on!!0 -

I agree about not being too bad. hope you get on well and have a good holiday. Mine isn't until late July but i will cross that bridge when I get to it.
I am back in tomorrow lunchtime. Not fussed about time cos am going to help Brother in law shift some cardboard for recycling around the same time.
daisyF has come up with good link for all who want CV assistance.

Next Step sounds great! Glad you've found them a good resource. I visited their website too. It looks like they would be really useful daisyf, but unfortunately it looks like they don't operate in Wales0

Thanks so much AndyBoy!
Can't seem to access the websit but I'm in work so could be something to do with their internet settings.
Will look into this as soon as I get home. Cheers!:beer:0
