My Redundancy Diary
Comments

had a phone call last night to arrange a meeting for some more work with another company - so if I get that fixed up this will mean I have my working hours filled
i had a bad day yesterday - just the working the notice that is driving me nuts - another 7 weeks to go and I want to get out there and start a new beginning

I know how you feel. Just nine more days for me and every single one seems to be lasting an eternity. It's hard to focus on our new lives while we are still living our old ones - but stay positive and those weeks will soon be over. Sounds like things are really coming together re your freelance work - well done!0 -
had a really good today - went for a chat about some freelance work and got offered two days for six months starting in the summer and then just as I got back from their another phone call for another job which would be one day a week.... So have filled my time up with my other part time role
just still need to make that website.
How you getting on with yours s bird and keep smiling on those 9 days left xxx0 -

Thanks for your good wishes - I haven't been on here all week hence my thank you is a bit belated.
I wish I was retiring but I'm 49 (50 the week I finish work) so retirement is very much in the distant future. Daughter number 3 is still at school and despite lots of OPs, I still have a 90k mortgage so . . . the plan is to set up as a freelance writer/copywriter/editor (my partner already works in this field) and maybe also work part-time for an employer (I found out yesterday that there might be an opportunity to do some freelance subbing on local paper in the summer so will look into that).
As the days pass, I'm definitely calming down a bit and finally starting to focus. I have a meeting with a mate (designer/web designer) on Friday evening to work on my logo/website and then another meeting with my 'business advisor' in two weeks' time.
I'm also writing a script (nearly finished) and have an idea for another short story (got one in TAB Fiction Feast a few months ago - they pay really well so any would-be writers out there, it's definitely worth sticking at it). So feel quite positive at the moment.
The nicest thing about redundancy is that it gives us the opportunity to come up for air - to actually have a breather from the relentless world of nine to five (or longer in many cases). In my officer, four of us are leaving; to say we are 'demob happy' is an understatement - we are almost dancing around with delight (yes, things have become that bad in local government).
Anyway, hope everything works out for you too. Keep us all updated and I'll do the same.
:rotfl:
Hi Slopingbird
That's fantastic, what an encouragement both to you and to your family on MSE.
The good thing is you can see that all of us on here reading and/or posting on this thread are going through the same feelings and emotions as each other.
My oh's deadline is today for applications for VERS, he has declined because although he is excellent at his job (not just my word but the testimony of all the headteachers of the schools he services) but the manager's in his dept have knocked all his confidence and the thought of going for an interview makes him ill. He went for one at a neighbouring County a couple of years ago and had to pull out when in the interview as his blind just went blank.
Anyway, that's enough about me. WELL DONE I am sure when your head is clear and you can focus properly you will see you have the drive, determination and ability to MOVE ON. YOU CAN DO IT and YOU HAVE ALREADY STARTED.
Best wishes and keep us updated.

thanks Andyboy, yes, please do. Best of luck
Assume you are in the same position as me then ?/
(Also notice that Pension Credits - at 60 - have a threshhold of £10k savings !!)
I guess i may be. i received a quite rude letter stating thay had tried to contact me twice without success. Strange that the neither of the 2 numbers I gave them have missed calls logged???
Anyway I am in for a meeting at 2.30pm today and will see what they say. If I don't get any JSA I will at least be registered as unemployed for the countries Stats to be up to date and in the hope that some training might be available.
I'll post back my experiences for all to see but have already been told that it could be 2 weeks before a decision is made.Andyboy :idea:0 -

Hi Andy
Remember the glass is half full, so go for it. You have been contributing into it and probably quite a lot by the sound of things and I am sure you should be entitled to it.
We are all behind you.
Best wishes.:grouphug:0 -
I Had a good meeting at the jobcentre yesterday. Had already applied on line and therefore only spent approx half hour in there. I told them I had been in my previous job for over 20 years and that I had completed self financed training as soon as I found out I was going. This went down very well and gave them a specialism (health & Safety) to limit the jobs I need to apply for. Looks like I will get contribution based JSA and they said they won't pester me for 13 weeks. :j
Just need to apply for so many jobs a week (if they are available) look at the gov uk jobsite and complete a CV by June. Just what i needed to egg me on. I still need to keep a diary of what I am doing and go back in 2 weeks.
If you can't decide what to do i would just say go. They aren't particularly nice places to go but it is a means to an end. I will keep you all posted.
castle96 go fo it!Andyboy :idea:0 -
so what were the Q's about 'savings', etc.
Were you automatically put onto Conts based JSA, rather than Income based ?
Were you asked for bank statements,, etc.0 -

On the application form I did on line it asked if we had savings and I answered yes. That was the only time any finances were asked for and during the interview I had no more questions asked. i think that under the ircumstances they have just put me straight on Cont based JSA but to be honest, until the money hits the bank, i don't know what I am going to get.
Just look at the on line application as you can stop and save as you go along. What have you got to lose?Andyboy :idea:0 -
Well my last day at work was yesterday .... no more work for me
Hope your job search goes well0 -
