    Advice please

Is it true that you only need (the last) 2 yrs NI conts to have been paid, to claim Conts based JSA ?

How much attention is paid to your investments/capital, if you claim Conts based JSA ?

    Taken from following website

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/Employedorlookingforwork/DG_10018757

    How it works
There are two types of Jobseeker's Allowance, 'contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance' and 'income-based Jobseeker's Allowance'.
    Contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance

You may be entitled to claim contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance if you have paid enough National Insurance contributions (NICs). Jobcentre Plus can pay this for up to 182 days. Generally, self-employed contributions will not help you qualify for contribution-based Jobseeker’s Allowance.

    Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance

This is based on your income and savings. You may get this if you have not paid enough NICs (or you've only paid contributions for self-employment) and you're on a low income.

Please read 'National Insurance - the basics' for more information about National Insurance contributions.

I know how you feel daisyf! I'm not even sure when they will release me yet? It's nice to know others are in the same position though. Try to keep busy, keep your head down and hopefully time will soon pass.
Good luck with your next venture!

I'll second these comments. You will be finished before you know it. Now is just treading water time and preparing for that day.

i have just taken someones advice and applied for JSA and await their contact (within 48 hours following on-lone application). It just seems that we are all waiting for one thing or another. i don't relish the idea of being on jobseekers but I am entitled to it and would like to keep my NI contributions topped up.

i will Let you know how I get on and welcome any other stories re-JSA.

thanks Andyboy, but... do I get a 'choice' ?

Conts based - OK on that, have paid last 4 yrs and have 24 yrs in all, but Income based, , I will have too much savings, so can I ? 'opt' for Conts based ?
