As well as play games you can use it as a media centre to play mp3/aac/flac/ogg/ra/virtually every other audio format. Also divx/xvid/dvd/rm/wmv/most other video formats too. Along with using it as an image viewer. see http://www.xboxmediacenter.de/
You can play old sega/nintendo/arcade/commodore/spectrum/etc games via emulators.
You can connect it to a pc using the network card and stream media from the pc (no need to burn discs), or copy stuff to the xbox' internal hard drive so it is always accessible even if the pc is off.
You can also install linux on it and use it as a pc (albeit a low end one).ॐ Signature Removed by Someones Mum. ॐ0 -
You beat me to it Ken-Dodds-Hairy-Knodule.
Just want to add that to do most of the things mentioned in K-D-H-K's post the xbox needs to be modded. This means that the xbox needs to have a special mod chip inserted or it needs to flashed.0 -

I presume you take it to one of these small games shops to get this done, does this invalidate your warranty?
We have loads of Sega, Nintendo, Spectrum games in the loft. Would we have to get some kind of hardware to connect these to the xbox?
Can't understand how you would get the spectrum games to work as they are in cassette format.0 -
Bum! the Xbox is in stock in Derby but not the games...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Some web sites do offer the service of "modding" your Xbox I doubt very much that any high stret shops would get involved in this. You can also do it yourself which does involve opening the Xbox up and does not need to involve any soldering but both openin and modding yor Xbox will invalidate the warranty. As for spectrum games, the cassette is only the storage media that was available at the time and is not relevant to the game working. The emulators mentioned preiously allow your pc/Xbox to "emulate" the Spectrum operating system and thus run the games from the hard drive. Hope that this helps!0

You do not have to open the Xbox to Modify it and can also be reset to factory settings and will not invalidate the warranty.0

Ermmm!
The bit I don't get is how do you transfer Spectrum games to your hard drive from the cassette?0 -
As Mad_Hatter has mentioned. There are quite a few web sites that will mod the xbox for you and it does invalidate your warrenty. I wouldn't try chipping it at home unless you're any good with a soldering iron. There are also ways to flash the bios that doesn't involve any soldering. We have loads of Sega, Nintendo, Spectrum games in the loft. You don't actually connect these to the xbox. There are ways of transferring these games onto a pc harddrive but the best bet would be to find web sites that have already done this for you and download the games from there.
I've had a modded xbox for a few years now and never looked back.
There's quite abit of info on this site

Hope this helps...0
