Can someone in the know please tell me what the xbox can do besides play games?

I have seen in other posts about them being used as media centres, what does that mean?

Can you connect the xbox to your pc or something and if so what are the benefits?

I have reserved one only because of the low price (as you do) but as we have a ps2 (can't afford an xbox 360) is it better to stick with the ps2 or buy one of these?
