Young Drivers' Car Insurance Discussion

Sounds a nightmare From the Marmalade website, it's all stick and no carrot. -You should be aware that we will use the data from the Ingenium Dynamics device which will be fitted to your car to score your journeys. If a journey falls into the red zone we will notify you and you can check out website to see where you can improve your driving. If you do drive badly, we will initially increase your premium to reflect this risk (initially by £250, then by £500), See full details of how the system works. If this continues we will cancel the policy. You should note that it would be very difficult for a younger driver to find an alternative insurance company in this event.0

There is currently a petition set up to get the government to act on this. If the government says it is compulsory, like tax, like MOT then it should be the same for insurance??? Why is it not regulated by them?? The insurance companies have got it good or why is there so many of them? Because it's easy money thats why.
We need to signing up to this petition to get something done!!
Thanks

whilst my boy gets ready for his test and since i brought him a car for xmas i have become mr angry i am now so anti insurance company as boys are being punished for being a male and of course all boys are now tarnished with one brush they are all bad anti social hooligans whilst girls are considered prim and would not cause any accidents i do not see why my friends daughter can pass her test and only pay 800 pounds whilst mine will either have to pay 4000 pounds or allow big brother watch his every move and of course you are not be allowed out after 11pm at a cost of 2500 pounds (wow) what a society we live in today no wonder law and order is breaking down.
isnt this adding to the problem and encouraging young boys to drive battered cars illegally0 -
Im now 22, but when had my first car, brand new 2.0 tdci focus when i was 19 i managed to get a quote for around £900, now 22 i get quotes for around £750 on a 12 plate focus. passed my test when i was 17, being a named driver till 19 then my own policy with my mum and dad as named drivers! i feel so luckly now that i managed to get a quote for that kind of price!0

Hi, I am 27 and looking to learn to drive / pass my test probably next year (so I'll prob be 28 by the time I've done it!) so I don't fall into 17-24 category BUT also, I am married and will be on my hubby's insurance. Is that the best way to do it?? Insurance cost - not to mention lesson and test costs - is one of the reasons my OH is reluctant for me to drive. Anyone else done this arrangement??0

TIP: Done all the usual rounds for my son (17) on a 56 plate Toyota Aygo.
Best I was getting from comparison sites was £7500 - amazingly, when I changed his sex to female - this came down to £2500 !! I've thought about sorting the sex change out for him with some garden shears
Anyway - I insure through LV, so I gave them a call - and it came in at £3500, with a 5% discount for 2 policies at the same address.
I asked if any other discounts were available , and they said that if he had a "Financial Product" with LV - it was a further 10% discount.
So next, I visited the LV Life Assurance web site - took out a £5 a month policy on his life (£88000 cover) over 25 years.
Went back to LV Car Insurance with the Policy number (policy was issued instantly) and they gave me £350 discount - Happy Days !!!
Plus - he now has cheap Life Insurance for the next 25 years, which will come in handy when he has some dependents, now that I've decided that I no longer need to lop off his todger to get cheaper insurance.0 -
From my post above ...
He passed his test last Monday (18th June) and his older brother (who has a Citroen C1) was going on holiday for a week - offered him to use his car for the week.
He rang his ins co. (Admiral) and got him a weeks worth of insurance attached to his policy for £45 !!!
So, I rang Admiral for a quote for my younger son - came back at £6000 !! Yet £45 X 52 weeks is just £2340 !!
Where's the logic here ?0 -
If I place myself as a second driver on my niece's policy to bring down the price would a crash/claim have any effect on my own policy/no claims?0

If she crashed/claimed, no. If you did, yes.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

hi!
I passed my test back in April. Now that i found out I have to change college (1.5 hours with public transport un just 30 min with car), I looked at insurance and it is just redicilous.
Best I found was Co-opratative insurance (£1300 on 1.4L Focus), they install a 'black box' in your car and monitor speed, cornering and braking. As much as I would want proper insurance, i can't pay £4000+ for it.
If I am not mistaken insurance can't charge female less then male, but still when you put that you are female, insurance goes down by £1000+.
Called up Adrian Flux and they quoted me £10000 for 1.2L Fabia, on limited milage and pass plus. :wall:
Vehicle purchase date affects insurance as well.
Has anyone tried to go talk in person to brokers?0
