I should have refreshed the page before posting. This is EXACTLY what I'm asking Eric also.

ok with carbs we are not going carb avoidance but rather carb controlled

so a reduced carb intake and focusing on low to medium GI carbs

    say 25-35g per meal

    http://www.the-gi-diet.org/lowgifoods/

dont forget to use those fats, there all good for you (except transfats)

so i would switch from cornflakes with skimmed milk to a low gi grain like rolled oats or a good muesli (like jordans) reduce the amount of grain and add full fat milk to get the same calorific value, personally i would also make it with a protein shake as this is a good sauce of calories and has over benefits

i eat a lot of cheese and stir fry in a lot of coconut oil and poor the oil over my veg

According to the site, ALL my foods are either Low or Medium GI anyway :j :j :j so there is hope for me yet.

The ONLY high GI food is the french baguette. I eat the small one once in a blue moon i.e. maybe once a month but I can do without it ;)

I tend to have a protein shake in the morning, whey protein powder and a dollop of peanut butter for fat made with soya milk, which has fewer carbs than dairy milk and is also meant to lower cholesterol ( I get tested again in 6 months, would like it to be lower)
I tend to eat a lot of salad, so today for lunch I had bacon and avocado salad, dollop of mayo, full-fat.
I use bean sprouts to replace rice, very tasty!
Also mashed cauliflower makes a good substitute for mashed potato
I bulk out with cauli and broccoli mostly
I often have a couple of dark rye Ryvitas with houmous or cream cheese for a snack
I am lower carbing, don't count carbs but aim for around 100g per day, so not the 20g of Atkins.

I'd love to have a Protein Shake for breakfast. I'm rushing as it is trying to get out of the house in the mornings so this would be ideal. My question is:

Which Protein Shake is ideal as there are loads out there? What one without lots of calories but also suitable as a post-exercise shake. Thanks.

  • Yes, they are great for the mad rush in the mornings! And surprisingly, the keep me full to lunchtime too!
I tend to buy one from Holland and Barrett when it is half price, which is every month or so! I buy vanilla flavour, some of the other flavours are higher in calories and carbs.
I think Eric buys his online; I'm sure he will pop by and let us know where from!
