if you eat a high carb meal you will spike your insulin you will go into fat storage mode, kinda defeats the object of the zero carb meals
avoiding carbs is not easy and takes some thought, but the hardest bit is the cost, carbs especially rubbish carbs are so cheap compared to real food
Thanks so much everyone who took the time to comment. I'm afraid some posts I quoted got cut off.
Yes this is the fats or carbs only in a meal one - and 4 hours minimum between the two if you're swapping over. Tbh I've always ignored the candida, hyperglycymia part of it and just stuck to the very basic rule of no fats and carbs together (which I think is like the food combining diet in the 1980s said). I guess the idea is even if your carb meal triggers fat storage mode, if you have no fats in the meal there is nothing to store?
You've hit the nail on the head with cost being the issue Eric. I can't afford to have meat/eggs in every meal and I end up skipping some to save money. So I'm wondering if I'm shooting myself in the foot by having weetabix/bran flakes with skimmed milk and berries for breakfast, or some homemade soup and a bit of homemade wholemeal bread with no butter for lunch and then a protein meal in the evening, or if I'm just going to have to find the money from somewhere. Cutting out the processed carbs is not so hard, swapping to brown stuff doesn't cost anything, but overall carb meals are just so much cheaper. If you have a look at the Pig to Twig aka Idiot Proof Diet forum, there is a thread there for low carb on a budget.

I have their Idiot Proof Diet book (got free with a magazine some months ago). It's a great read but I've not done any of the diet therein as I don't do diets - only exercise. They swear that it works though
I do want to change my mindset though that I can eat anything I want within moderation because I exercise daily. I would love to completely change some of the food I eat but I loathe cooking (hubby cooks) so I simply eat what he prepares and work it off the next day :rotfl:I'm NOT overweight but my tummy is an issue. I'd like it to be flatter (after 5 kids) but don't know if it'll ever happenSECRET TO WINNING PRIZES:

Pilates is very good for tummy toning. I need to lose my tummy fat first though! Having children is certainly not good for the figure. I always wonder how those "super slim celebs" manage to get back their flats stomachs SO quickly after having a baby!0

I tried this diet about 2 yrs ago but after 2 days i honestly felt the worst i have ever felt in my life and OH said i was horrible to be around. It's basically old school atkins - no carbs or sugar, including carby veg and fruit.
I know 'carb addiction' is real but to be honest lots of ppl lose weight without cutting out all carbs and i dont think it's necessary to limit your food in such an extreme way.
I like thier cookbook tho and the first few chapters of the diet book (before the actual diet) are very motivational and address a good few of the issues most ppl have with their size / body.Betty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....
Why Put Off Until Tomorrow What You Can Do Today? :A0 -
2.5miles on exercise bike today.
Insanity also kicked butt. Got work tomorrow boohoo, but no work sunday waheyy!
Also, i've decided that after I finish Insanity, (so starting from 16th May), I will do a mixture of Insanity phase 2 and P90x Classic program. So P90x that first week, then Insanity the next, then P90x, then Insanity (you get the pattern) all the way until 1st July as I'll be going on holiday on the 2nd (unless plans change and my family end up changing flight dates for our holiday). This is so I have fat burning mixed with proper toning as although so far Insanity has toned up my arms a bit, I know P90x will be able to do much more as Insanity is mainly known as the fat shredder to get more lean, whereas P90x is mainly known for those wanting to gain more muscle. Anyway, I'm hoping my legs end up following the rest of my body as it really puts me down.
Received my scale today too. Can't wait to use it on the 16th as that's when I'll next be weighing myself. Will also be seeing what my body fat % is.0 -

This is one of the problems, in the same way we have been sold bullpat about eating cholesterol = cholesterol in the blood (which it does not) people think eating fat = fat stored. Unfortunately for us the body stores carbs as well, first it fills up the glycogen stores (which is the second place the hardcombe diet fails, since if you have glycogen stored you wont burn fat until its gone) once there full it will convert spare carbs super fast into fat and the body is pretty efficient at this.
What I have discovered is that you do not need to be as extreme as say atkins to get consistent weight loss, if you avg 100g a day of low GI carbs (up to 150g if your larger) you can still keep low insulin levels and keep your glycogen store empty
you don't have to eat massive amounts of protein especially if your an avg sized female, 30-50g a meal would be plenty, say half a tin of tuna or a single chicken breast
if you want to have serial for breakfast try to go for very low GI grains like rolled oats, weetabix are GI 77 and bran flakes 74m both are fast acting sugers (processed so easily absorbed)! Rolled oats are 51 and there cheap.
theres an easy and very cheap way to get protein and healthy fat into your breakfast and thats to make your cereal with a protein shake and whole milk, so I have vanilla oats for breakfast, I use my-protein impact whey (SPAMMERS DO NOT LINK DISCOUNT CODES :mad:) as its a pure whey with no added crap like most protein shakes and works out at 21p per 30g serving if you get the 5kg bags or 35p for the 1kg bags
http://www.my(*)protein(*).com/uk/products/impact_whey_protein delete both of the (*)
tinned tuna is another great and cheap source of protein, especially when the supermarkets have there 50% deal bundles, aldi also does very cheap tins which are fine when drained and had in a salad
learning when your supermarket puts out the nearly expired best before meat can lead to great savings. We got a 3kg leg of pork for £10 last week and would have got 12-14 normal sized meals out of it (or 6 eric sized meals lol).
the other thing you can do is shift more your diet into the fats group so go for whole milk, cheese, nuts all of which can be pretty cheap so 25% protein 25% low gi carb 50% fat
tescos do very cheap almonds (which i love yum) there great in salad or as a snack, these big 800g bags which are hidden (in middle east type foods) are only 75p per 100g! as are there 200g bags

you have to watch nuts as they con customers with different size combinations to get extra profit

thats the thing you just dont need to go hard core zero carb, its very hard and unsustainable for 90% of people, 100-150g a day thou works just as well and is fully sustainable in the long term. Research has shown that the human brain needs an avg of about 100g a day in carbs (with not much fluctuation as all our brains are pretty equal) which will stop you getting "low carb flu" but will keep the rest of the body in light ketosis (fat burning mode)
I would say thou that all the girls in the before and after pics are still fat ...0 -

They read much more accurately than the old version which fluctuated +/- 0.2-0.6 every time you got on them and its easier to select the user
