What are people's feelings on Harcombe?

Never heard of it/her so googled
I’ve been asked by the media – if you don’t agree with the “Eat less, do more” advice – what do you agree with? My answer is “Eat better and do whatever you like”.
I’ve also been asked – is the diet low carb or low-fat and the answer is neither. It is real food – carbs and fats – in whatever quantities you want – just not at the same meal.

I'm sure someone will come along soon to answer. I'm not on a diet so don't really know much about it/them ;)

What are people's feelings on Harcombe? I'd rather eat protein, but carbs are already in the house, so it's a lot easier and cheaper to have a fat free meal than a carb free one - ie lunch today was 2 small slices homemade bread and homemade parsnip soup - very carb heavy but no fat... but I don't know if this will work.

My bad weekend has caught up with me when I finally braved the scales today - 3lbs on - bringing my total loss down to only 6.4lbs

I'd not heard of it either, but have just browsed around the website and I'm not totally convinced about it. It is generally a good plan, but there are a few little things that don't add up.

Taken from the website... 'Mushrooms feed Candida albicans, while potatoes are very high in carbohydrate so they encourage Candida albicans and hypoglycaemia.'

I'm not sure why Candida Albicans are such an issue. From what I've read, they can cause some sort of yeast infection, but they are only really a problem for people with lowered immune systems (HIV, chemotherapy, transplant patients, etc)... so what has that got to do with weight loss?

My main issue is with the 'potatoes encourage hypoglycemia' - hypoglycemia is caused (among other things) by a lack of carbs - too many carbs = hyperglycemia. I did think that this could be a typo, but this is repeated twice in other parts of the website. I may be being petty over it, but it seems to me that if they don't really understand what they are talking about, then how useful is their advice?

As for the 'eat carbs and fat, but not in the same meal', I kind of agree with it, although I would say 'not in the same day'. I've lost weight using both both methods so they do both work, but I've found that mixing and matching doesn't. There have been quite a few times when I've started off low carbing but have ended up eating carby meals simply because I didn't have the time to cook anything low carb, I've always found that I either STS or even gain a little. I'm not completely sure, but I think it must take more than the space between meals for your body to be completely free of the carbs, or for your body to adapt or something.

I think that your meal today sounded great, really healthy and filling. So if eating like that suits you then carry on as both methods will work, it's just a case of choosing the one that suits you best.

ahh yeah i remember her candida nonsense, this has been shot down as well

if you eat a high carb meal you will spike your insulin you will go into fat storage mode, kinda defeats the object of the zero carb meals

avoiding carbs is not easy and takes some thought, but the hardest bit is the cost, carbs especially rubbish carbs are so cheap compared to real food :(

Hi, do you mind if I join in? I want to lose about 11lb. Doing a new routine of about 1hr workout 5 times a week. Using food focus to track my calories. Supposed to be a rest day today but only have 79cal left for dinner so I guess I'll get on the bike tonight so I can actually eat something!

How much exercise does everyone do? I hate the thought of devoting all my waking hours to it. Plus I have an office job so sitting down all day.
  • Ok just about caught up with everyone's post I think...... somedays you guys go so fast :rotfl:

Hope you're all out voting tomorrow?

I'm up all tomorrow night counting - 2 constituencies and 3 polls in each - it'll be major chaos - hopefully it'll be a bit organised though :rotfl:. We have to go back to count the AV votes on Friday afternoon , IMO it would have been better to get them all done at the same time.
hope the counting goes with out a hitch Fred and that you have some nice healthy snacks to take with you :D

Polkadot - I cannot believe that you have been treated so badly  I hope that your meeting brings things to a suitable solution. Good luck tonight with weigh in :D

I have completed my 3rd run of week 8 today :j And I cannot say how glad I was last night to find that the extra 2lb I put on last week had gone this week :D So maybe this maintaining is going to be a game of yo yo until I get balanced :rotfl:

Fred - can you please add 3.3 miles to my total please :j
    Restarting C25K in 2014 - Week 8 - 1/3 completed
