Eric, this is how it will be a 'lifestyle change':

What is different in consolidation. Everything that up until now you have been allowed to eat (from attack to cruise) remains completely available. This is what I call “The Base” and you can always eat “AS MUCH AS YOU WANT” from it.
But there are some new items, below is the list of foods that from today you may include in your programme.
Fruit: You can choose any fruit you like from anywhere on the planet except for the following 4 fruits: bananas, grapes, cherries and figs. However, you can still make these part of a celebration meal (this way nothing is ever totally forbidden).
2 slices of wholemeal bread: slices as they are cut by the baker. If you go for a different sort of bread try and make sure it is brown and has some goodness in it, whatever you do don’t eat white bread.
40 g / 1 ½ oz cheese: Try not to choose a cheese with more than 40% fat. If you find a cheese to your liking with 30% fat then you can have up to 50 g; with 20 % fat you can go up to 55 g and if your cheese has just 10% fat you may eat 60 g.

Starchy foods: You can take your choice! Ideally you’ll go for wholemeal pasta, as it is rich and has a lovely, dense texture in your mouth. Oil and butter are not allowed but you can have a nice homemade tomato sauce and….a sprinkling of Parmesan on top! You can also let yourself be tempted by couscous, lentils, peas…go and look at recipe ideas in the recipe book in your slimming apartment.
Celebration meals: breakfast, lunch or dinner it’s up to you to choose when, so long as you space your meals out properly. You now have the possibility of eating whatever food you want to but just one lot: one starter, one main dish, one dessert or one cheese, one aperitif or one glass of wine. You can have a good helping of everything but only ONCE, you must never have seconds.
Protein Thursdays: this is the safety catch for your consolidation phase and it means sticking to a day of pure proteins every Thursday. This is equivalent to a mini attack phase when you eat from the 7 categories of the purest protein foods and still as much as you want.
Losing weight quickly is fine; what is vital is consolidating your true weight.
When you are in this consolidation phase you must never forget that over 90% of people who follow a diet regain the weight they had lost. You won’t be one of them, I am certain of that; you have got exactly what it takes to succeed!

The consolidation phase, for me, should be from mid-October. And I can live with that. 2 slices of wholemeal bread a day - yes. Fruits except for the 4 listed - yes, no problem. Oranges, grapefruit, apples are what we commonly eat, with others in season like strawberries, plums etc. After all, I grew up never having seen a banana until I was nearly 10, and I can live without them. I'd find it hard to live without any bread at all, or any fruit, but this is something to look forward to. I can have rhubarb on alternate days now because it's considered to be a vegetable. I can also have tomatoes although they're considered to be fruit.

Thank you, Eric. Yes, it does have to be a lifestyle change. It's the very opposite of 'lose weight and then go back to how you were'. Or, 'you can still lose weight and have your chocolate or glass of wine'. I believe that further along he does build in what he calls a 'celebration meal' in which wine is allowed - well, it would be, being French. What I did starting Sunday was protein only with very low fats, that lasted 2 days. Then alternate protein-only days and protein with vegetables days. This will last until mid-October. No fruits until much later, and if anything, that's what I'm finding difficult. But hey, my remote ancestors wouldn't have had all the fruits available to them that there are now. I doubt if they ever saw an orange, much less a banana. Actually, bananas are an absolute no-no according to Dukan, because they're highest in sugar of any of the fruits.

What I ate yesterday was scrambled egg, then sirloin steak with broccoli for lunch, stewed rhubarb with Greek-style yogurt, then later I made a pancake of one egg with oat bran and I had that with sweetener, lemon juice and fromage frais. Oh, and we had mushrooms, although it was a bit strange eating them without toast! I've stopped adding Robinson's no added sugar to water and now add a slice of lemon. The only thing really that you must have is 2 tablespoons of oat bran daily and that can be made into a little pancake with a beaten egg (I'm allowed 2 eggs a day) or made into porridge. And drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day. And there's exercise built into it - again, our remote ancestors would have been active as a matter of course, wouldn't they, and the decrease in normal physical activity over the last 50 or so years must have been a contributory factor.

This morning I've so far had a one-egg omelette with prawns and my usual 2 cups of coffee.

There's a report where you submit your daily weight and measurements. This is completely converse to what others have told me - only weigh once a week. I've been weighing daily for a long time because I like to, but it has been frowned on.

sounds interesting, i will defiantly have to dig up the book

the fruit thing sounds sensible as it would have been a seasonal treat, i have always advised on 1 fruit to 4 veg in your 5 a day

i think the main reason for not having daily measurements is that body weight fluctuates so much naturally that it could be demotivation

not sure on the oatmeal thou as we would never have eaten that

dont quite get the protein days or the problem with butter or cheese
  • Are bananas bad? :(

    yes and no

loaded with potassium, magnesium and other essential nutrients, especially good for ladies at their TOTM

there GI 51 which is pretty low, but can be higher if they are ripe

they are about 25g of carbs which is a lot, 1/4 of a days allowance, probably ok as an occasional thing, or pre / post a heavy workout session, like a 10k or very heavy resistance training

not something that would naturally be available to western Europeans in there diet

Hmm. I am trying to come up with a suitable breakfast, and I thought that bananas would be a good one, but I guess not. I am currently having instant porridge every morning I'm at work, but I don't think that the 'instant' stuff is very good for me, and certainly isn't natural.

I am finding reducing carbs to be a pain in the neck - not because I miss them or crave them, but because I can't think of anything easy to eat that isn't a total carb fest

thats habit and a cultural issue

other cultures simply do not eat cereal or sandwiches for meals, its just something we see as the norm, for some reason

there are plenty of other fruit that are not so sugar loaded, my OH has blueberries which are also a super food

as for the porridge go for a rolled oats, scotts is available in many supermarkets

    Hello everyone.

Eaten loads of rubbish today. Was hanging around with a crew off Channel 4 (top secret) :lipsrseal and ate with them in their trailer ;)

Had my porridge before I left home after my workout
Got there and had 2 yogurts (OK),
2/3 cups of tea (no sugar only milk),
    a packet of crisps
a couple of choc bars
a couple of lemon tarts
Rice and veg and steamed fish for lunch (OKish)
a couple of apples and a banana :)

I wonder how celebrities stay slim with lots of junk on set. And I have to go back tomorrow

I think I'll do a workout before bed tonight :rotfl:
