The calorie counters on exercise equipment are super inaccurate, the closest thing to accuracy you can get at home is by using a polar system with owncal

Polar OwnCal feature shows your energy expenditure during exercise as well as your accumulated kilocalories to date. F6/F7/F11/F55 calculate an estimation of fat consumption from total kilocalories expended during an exercise session. The percentage of fat expended during exercise can vary between 0 and 60%. The value is displayed after the exercise.

    OwnCal draws its information from:
    • gender
    • body weight
    • height
    • exercise heart rate
    • exercise duration
    • maximum heart rate (HRmax) *
    • maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max) *
    • resting heart rate (HRrest/sit) *
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Polar-FT7M-Heart-Rate-Monitor/dp/B001U0OFDC/ref=lh_ni_t

Oooohhhhhh, that sounds interesting!!! :D Quite pricey, but I might just have to buy one. I think having that on my wrist would give me the push to exercise more, and for longer. I'd also probably spend a lot of time messing around doing different things to see how many cals I burn doing it.

Have you got any experience of the FT4? As it seems to do pretty much the same thing but is £20 cheaper.
Hi guys, I have been reading through your thread with great interest. Is it too late for me to join, I desperately need motivation to exercise! I joined SW 2 weeks ago weighing in at 15st 1lb and I have never before been this heavy. I lost 5.5lb last week, and hopefully more this week.
I know that if I don't do regular workouts my weight loss will only go so far.
If I can join can I aim for 12 hours, as its nearly half way through the month?

Hi Frodo, Welcome to the thread!
Congratulations on last week's loss - V.impressive! :T If you want to join any of the challenges Fredsnail will add you to the chart, which will be updated and posted tonight. You then just post up whenever you have exercised (in bright and bold font) and she will add it to the chart ready for the following week.

    Welcome back SGTG! :j

    Congratulations BrightonBelle!

Well I have fallen off the diet wagon :(. I've not evenh weighed myself (1st time I've forgotten since I started 6 months ago!) I've been so busy that I've been falling into my old habits of just grabbing snacks instead of making proper meals - and it has all been pure carp!
Not exercised at all either, not even on the bike. I seem to have lost all motivation, and now think that there's no point as I'm going away next week (so will be off the diet) so I would only put it all back on again - not a great mindset, I know!

I hoped that the sight of me in swimwear would give me the motivation to give it one last push before I go :rotfl: but the one I've chosen actually looks pretty good! TBH, I think the diet is a lost cause for the next week or so and, although I won't sit on my bum gorging on everything in sight, I probably won't be making any good food choices until I return.

I'm now thinking 'Fresh Start', so I might order one of those heart rate monitors which will be there by the time I get back, and place a Tesco order full of healthy food for delivery the day after - so I don't have the choice to eat carp as the cupboards will be filled with lots of lovely healthy stuff :T

Congratulations BB and Mr BB-to-be. September sounds like a whirlwind of an engagement/wedding. Whatever your plans, I'm sure it will be a magical day. I'm delighted for you both.

I did WI this morning, but have forgotten where I was up to on my Weds WI's, so will just go with what I did on my Monday night WI at class, and report a -1lb loss this week. Am trying to be very much 'on plan' this week, and get back into the swing of eating the right things.

Have just managed to catch up on the thread. Well done Vix. Glad the meeting went well Victory. Well done on the loss Mandz, and hope the haircut goes well. Speaking of which, it's been more than 2yrs since I last had mine cut & coloured... I bet if I had a haircut I could lose half a stone!

Have a great week everyone. I'm off to watch OH on a track day tomorrow, watching him blast round on his m/bike. The forecast looks good, and I'll get to walk around Cadwell park, which is a lovely part of the world. We're taking a healthy pack-up too, as he's finally gained 2lb (after eating all those McDonalds) and has been slogging it out in the gym ever since, and refusing to eat anything fattening. Honestly, he's a 30" waist, at age 45, he hasn't really got any worries, has he? He has made me laugh how panicky he's got, but wish I had half his willpower and incentive to really go for it.

Also, as a last thing. OH mentioned about Pauline Quirk having lost 6 stone after re-evaluating her life. Apparently her weight loss is down to Lighter Life. I don't think I've met 1 person who's done that and kept the weight off... they generally regain it within the year. Funny how people get to their 50's, who have been large most of their adult lives and suddenly decide to drop a huge amount of weight: Nigel Lawson, Fern Britton, Dawn French, Stephen Fry to name but a few celebs. I wonder if it's to do with age, or a health issue thing?
